Some old guy calling the cops because he has nothing better to do is total b.s. If I were the guys who were busted, I would sneak super glue in the old geezers Depends.

If you met him you would know how unlikely that is... I actually like the guy and in his early 70's he's not someone to screw with.

The fact that some of you are amazed that a retired FBI agent would call the police on individuals breaking the law baffles me. I guess we know why the mortgage industry has such a bad reputation... How dare they arrest someone for breaking the law. I bet some of you are the ones asking how to get an illegal alien financed.

Ok, from the direction of the responses it sounded like most are men, let me give you a woman's prospective of the flyer issue. I live in a gated community with no solicitation. I live there for one reason, SECURITY. Whose to say these guys weren't going door to door with flyers to see if a young girl or woman was home alone that they could victimize?? Or an elderly couple they could take advantage of. I pay for that security. I didn't "come" from money, I worked my behind off to be able to afford it. If the guys were legit and hard working, well they should have read the signs at the gate.

Hey now, I'm not one of the *guys*

But I totally agree w/you about the security thing. I remember that thread about the LO going door to door, not a snowball's chance I'd let a strange man into my home.

And I also think if there are state or municipal ordinances against soliciting, LOS really ought to know what they are.

You have a point... If one of those girls that sells those cookies comes in to Rudeness' neighborhood they BETTER watch out because one of the local "sports figures" could sue them for trying to sell something that could impact their future sporting career or....They could be arrested by one of the helpful policemen because one of the "sports figures" drops dead due to ingesting their cookies.

Rudeness you first qualified your topic with You have to laugh then you felt sorry for them.... I get it... Kinda a funny situation but you feel bad that they were trying to work... But you pay high prices in your community. Looks like everyone has a valid point.

I think that I have been Nifonged... this is now actually a word.

1. Nifonged

Nifonged describes the railroading or harming of a person with no justifiable cause, except for one's own gain. It is someone being taken advantage of unfairly by someone without scruples or morals. It is created more in disdain of North Carolina/Durham District Attorney Michael Nifong, and his screwing of 3 Duke University Lacrosse Team members and helping to inflame a tense racial situation for his own glory, ego, and political gain.

Being Nifonged, Getting Nifonged, Nifonged
-examples
1. We knew we were BEING NIFONGED when we were forced to pay an extra $50 duty to the customs agent for bringing foreign magazines into Mexico under the threat of jail time.
2. When I saw that the rebate on my new DVD player was not honored by the company I'd bought it from, I had the distinct feeling I was GETTING NIFONGED.
3. "When we noticed that our belongings were missing from our room, we had the distinct feeling we had been NIFONGED by the locals.

If you pay CDD and HOA and heavy taxes to live in a gated communty you do it for a few reasons security, privacy and the ammenities clubhouse, pool, golf course etc. it is really frustrating to see people trying to get in just to sell something you don't want. Now that i know how most of you feel i will hunt this people down and bring them to justice.... oh i think i went too far

No you didn't brotha... we pay what we pay for a reason. Some on here pay much more and some much less. I'm betting that the complaints are coming from those that pay much less.

I hate to laugh at the misfortune of others but I have to… this is kind of funny. It shows how hard up some mortgage guys are right now. I live in a gated Tampa community, which is not considered rich… but affluent. The gate clearly displays a no trespass/no solicitation sign. So I come home this afternoon and notice going through the neighborhood that many mailboxes have been flyered. I turn the corner onto my street and see a couple of guys being run off a property by my neighbor… a retired FBI guy. I go over to ask him what’s up & he hands me a flyer advertising 100% cash out, EZ qualifying.

Before I can finish reading the flyer a few of Tampa’s finest swarm in to put cuffs on these guys and drive them off. The third cop whom my neighbor knows comes down to talk with us. He explains to us that believe it or not, these two guys are being charged with trespassing, unlicensed solicitation and here’s the kicker… a possible felony for door-to-door solicitation of a high cost mortgage product. (If it sticks). They are also in violation of federal law for placing flyers on the mailboxes. I actually feel bad for these guys… maybe I’ll offer them telemarketing jobs when they get paroled… LOL

Good for them (I mean the police, of course)!! Predictably, those LO's who see this as a threat to getting new leads will wonder what the fuss is all about.

I for one am glad that they got busted. They will probably receive no more than a slap on the wrist, but it is absolutely a felony to put something in a mailbox that hasn't been stamped.

Man - this post really took off....

Bottom line....

1. There is a gate for a reason.
2. There is a No Soliciting sign for a reason.
3. Put the flyer in an envelope and slap an address and stamp on it.
4. Stay away from mailboxes, DUH!

If someone could get those damn Kirby guys to stop knocking on my door at 9:00 p.m. I would appreciate it. ;-)

They left a flyer that cost the tax payers of FL. not a dime. The cops were sent out which cost the people of FL. money. The DA will prosecute which will cost the people of FL more money. If convicted and sent to jail they get 3 hots and cot which cost the people of FL even more... I think I would much rather lift the garbage can lid and have my tax dollars put to stopping the real criminals... Just my thought...

i'm with Araiderfan2 on this one. arresting these guys is pretty ridiculous.

all you'd have to do is roll up and turn on the disco lights while you rough em up a little bit and check for weapons and warrants. then let em go and tell them to watch themselves. problem solved.

going through the hassle of booking these guys and filling up court dockets is a little ridiculous. there are more serious things happening out there than "traspassing" in broad daylight. gimme a break.

and for those of you who talk about security etc. living in your gated communities. i would be very surprised if any of you had to deal with any REAL breach of security to be scared of guys with flyers.

try having explosions going off all night while you're trying to sleep. add fireteams of 2-4 men each lurking around at 2am with high capacity magazines on fully automatic rifles looking for trouble. "but hey, these guys down in the rich part of Tampa in broad daylight with flyers.. whoa whoa lemme tell you. dangerous.... we need more security."

hell, as long as the guy near my property doesn't have a weapon, or a sat phone to call in an artillery or air strike, i don't care what he does. especially in broad daylight.

Hey Nico, I live in the New Orleans Metro area so security in NOT a joke. You may not have to worry about terrorist but rapist, robberies and shootings are a concern. Right after Hurricane there were people going around putting flyers out for construction svs, painters, demo, etc and everyone tolerated it because of the difficult circumstances we were under but there was coincidentally an increase in break ins ( mostly to peoples cars) so now we are back to strict no solicitation. I am sure if your neighbor called the police on a solicitor who turned out to be a previous child molestor you would be grateful for his vigilance.

What you really should have done was taken a couple of apps from the cops who showed up and waved them in that serial poster's face! That woulda shown him! Hanging's too good etc etc

what a load. over 90% of rape cases involve a victim that knows the person who raped them. guys just don't hide out in the bushes at night looking for someone to rape. rape is a crime committed against acquaintances. same with child molestation. vast majority of any sex crime for that matter is between people who know each other.

not guys in khaki pants hanging out in white neighborhoods putting up mortgage flyers in broad daylight in the middle of the street. gimme a break.

Wow Nico you are impressive... a war hero and criminal profiler all in one. Where do you find the time. To bad you don't have a clue as to what the hell you're talking about. Its also obvious that you don't mind breaking the rules since your paid by Citi to work... but spend your time on BO.
