| Their disregard for the child's emotional well being in all of this is beyond comprehension, you'd think they'd reach out[if anything], not push out... |

what a shame. adults can have disagreements. fine, i think we are all prepared for that. the children must be left out.
lets say i am one who is doing the pushing out here. wouldn't i best get my point across trying to nurture this child and influencing him/her with my beliefes, then the push this child away and let them learn from their homelife? |

I wonder what order of Catholics they are. Some have very very different beliefs and attitudes.
It is outrageous for this to happen. I wonder how many of their parishioners have sex outside marriage, have had an abortion, take the pill, etc., they may find they wouldn't have many left. |

| I assume that the school is not receiving any Federal money. I wonder how other parents are reacting to the event. I agree with Scrooge ... protect the kids and focus on educating them. |

Why lesbian parents would enroll their child in a Catholic school is beyond me.
Their kid should suffer the stigma and social pressure so the parents can make some kind of point or prove something to themselves? Kids of gay parents have hard enough time in regular schools but to put them in an environment where they're taught that their lesbian parents are sinners and will go to hell, is almost cruel. |

Some Catholics are very strict to the values, I know Orthodox Christians Churches do not budge one bit from the original values. They still follow the rules when the church first started in Jerusalem 33AD, and there is nothing wrong with that!
What people do not understand region and modern day lifestyle changes do not always fit.
Asking a Church to accept homosexuality is like asking PETA to allow some visitors to have a T-bone steak during their next conference. It simply should not be asked.
We can change in the name of political correctness, and many do including some Churches. Just how far will they go to please everybody, I don't know? Basically to be a Church and condone homosexuality is to no follow the core beliefs of their religion.
I respect people to choose to do what they want God gave them free will, but it is a two way street! We have to also accept the religious values set inside the Church, as members they need to try and adhere to those values the best they can. |

Catholics have supported and supressed homo men and child molesters for hundreds of years. Why they would take a stand against females is beyond me, or not.

| That's probably one of the reasons I don't subscribe to organized religion. I just never believed in giving up 10% of my income to blindly follow a belief that I can't see, touch or feel. I'm not from Iowa, but I'm a show me kinda guy! |

It's not about whether or not they can be religious. It's simply a matter of how much they want to put their children through given what they know about the reality of homophobia in the realm of religions. It must've occurred to them at some point that this was going to be a bad idea for their kid's sake. |

I think that you are giving those parents too much credit for commonsense. My former business parner is a gay guy. He and his husband adopted two children. They decided to do exactly what those parents did ... put these two kids into Catholic school. Their reasoning was that they would be spared being picked on in public school. Now how does that thought process make sense? At the end of the day, I believe that some gays have no problem using children to make their point. Period.

I understand that gays want to have kids and lead normal lives, I get that. But if 2 gay men are raising a kid together, the kid is going to get razzed and made fun of, it just is the way it is, kids can be mean and very cruel, all schools have bullies.
Sometimes I think it's selfish, the kids are the ones that will suffer. I am not saying it's right.
I am sure many here would have no problem with this, but... some might. If your 8 year old son wanted to have a sleep over at a friends house, and you didn't know his friends parents were both men, lets just say another parent mentioned it to you, that this kid lived with 2 gay men, would you let your son go stay the night?
Honestly, I probably would not feel comfortable, now... if I had met them before and knew a little about them, maybe.
But, even a Hetro couple could be just as bad, you could send your kid off to spend the night with a phedo or a drug abuser, you never know. But letting my 8 year old spend the night with 2 gay men, yeah, probably not. |

So, basically they didn't actually "toss" him out, like yank him out of class or anything, but were told he could not "return" next year.
Pre School is harsh.
This is the rule, so I guess I understand it, no matter how hypocritical, and it is. My "personal" feeling, the kid should be allowed to stay, no matter what his parents are. But rules are rules, meant to be broken of course, bad policy. It's not the kids fault, he has no say in the matter, why punish him?
As I said in the other thread, the kids are the ones who suffer from homo relationships. Imagine if the kid was 14 and was asked not to return to a School where all of his friends are, it could really destroy that kid, but this kid is in pre-school, so.. maybe it wont hurt so bad.
Did anyone happen to catch that stupid documentary that Rosie O'donell did, I think it was on Showtime or HBO, but anyway.. she was on a gay Cruise ship, all of the passengers were Gay with children, they wanted to show that Gay parents can have kids and lead normal lives, it was a gay old time, I was buying in until they showed this 4 year old little boy, the son of two gay men, this kid had a mohawk, with an ear ring, and there other weird things too, this kid WAS 4, geeez, no influence there, just normal family livin. |

You make the most ignorant presumption; gay men are more likely to be pedophiles. Neither research nor statistics back up your antiquated, prejudicial, and stereotyped belief. It's founded only on irrational fear. Like when a client calls you letting you know how the rates are doing based one of those internet ads that says "OBAMA LOWERS RATES."

Somehow, I doubt that sending your kids to a sleepover at his friend's house whose parents are gay is synonymous with sending them to spend the night with 2 gay men. Unless the topic you're talking about is to literally send your kid to spend the night with 2 gay men, which would be weird ... |

Your measurement of 'how bad' hetero couples can be is based on the gays, because according to you, even "a hetro couple could be" "just as bad". Just as bad.
Enough said.

"I feel pretty, Oh, so pretty, I feel pretty, and witty and gay, And I pity Any girl who isn’t me today.
I feel charming, Oh, so charming-- It’s alarming how charming I feel, And so pretty That I hardly can believe I’m real. "
A great song by Maria in West Side Story (play in 1957, movie in 1961).
Too bad the word has evolved into a pejorative.

Frank, that cracks me up. When I went to Lake Powell over the summer, we kept singing that song, over and over, not in a campfire kind of way, but more like an I'm drunk and hanging off the back of a boat kind of way, but funny! |

No, I would not let my eight year old spend the night with a friend that had known gay parents.......or any other parents that I did not know - as Kathi mentioned, you don't know what's in there, there could be a meth lab on the premises.
Why? Not out of fear of being abused, far from it. I would prefer to choose the time and place to discuss human sexuality with my child, not because he saw two women kissing each other or two men groping each other. I'm the parent, I get to choose. When my boys were 8, if there were public displays of same sex relationships, I would divert their attention (pretty easy to do w/ an eight year old) and I would not be hanging out with them in a predominately gay atmosphere.
Mike, you were reading way too much into Kathi's statements. Are you a parent? |

I have to agree. I think at young ages it might simply be too confusing to explain to a small child. Unless it's already common knowledge to the child, there is no sense in introducing it to them that young. My sister is gay but lives in another state and the day will come when I have to explain it to my son. This being said, I will explain it when I have to and not before. I would never let my child stay the night anywhere I didn't know the parents.

Mandy,
I feel that if you wanted to and believed in equal rights, you could explain it such a way and avoid the uncomfortable talks with your kid, but you present an interesting and compelling reason for the sleepover situation. I must admit, not being a parent myself, I hadn't thought of it from the birds-and-the-bees talk perspective. I can see how that would be challenging to parents and you have every right to want to avoid that awkward talk with your kids. However, in a world where gays are coming out of the closet left and right and it's slowly becoming more 'okay' for them to do so, you can only do so much to limit exposure. But with that said, I can understand your concern and I respect your right to limit your kid's exposure.

I just glanced over this thread late last night, and now that I re-read it I can see that you are being sarcastic when you say you are shocked. No, I wasn't an alter boy, but I went to a Catholic School for one year. I think it is shallow for you to lash out at all Catholic priests for being gay pedophiles. Every church has these types of predators that hide behind the cloak of GOD, not just the Catholic Church. It just so happens that the Catholic Church is the biggest and gets the most negative publicity for this, but I don't think the percentages of child molestation charges are any higher than any other church. Look at all the "Born Again" Holy Rollers who will tell you that you're going to hell...There are crazies in every church in my opinion. |
