| Any suggestions? I have a horrible sore throat and even talking which is 95% of my work is killing me right now. My throat feels like I gargles with broken glass. What works best over the counter to numb this so I can get some sales done? |

| This sounds terrible but it will get rid of the sore throat quickly. Gargle with red pepper the more the better (as much as you can stand) and water. I do it every time and it really works fast. |

I just got this off of a website.
May be the most effective sore throat remedy is using Cayenne Pepper for a Hot and Spicy Gargle:
•The most amazing and effective treatment is using 5 shakes of Cayenne Pepper (Capsicum frutescens) Powder in a cup of hot water (or herbal tea or saline solution or lemon juice) and gargle every 15 minutes with the spicy elixir. May swallow each time a tiny bit. Gargling with cayenne can cause a strong burning sensation of lips and tongue. Therefore is good keeping milk or yogurt in your mouth after gargling until the burning disappears.
•If you do not have Cayenne pepper use 10-20 drops of Tabasco sauce in a glass of warm water, the effect will be the same.
• If you do not have access to Cayenne or Tabasco, chili peppers, hot paprika or white pepper are similarly useful. All this pungent spices contain capsaicin, which dulls the pain and has anti-viral properties.

| Sounds like you're getting what I had. Horrible sore throat followed by fever, congestion, and a cough that persists for days. Hopefully not and its just a sore throat. I prescibe alcohol, preferably 80 proof. |

| About 2 tablespoons of salt mixed with about a quarter cup of water, stir briskly, gargle till you can't handle it anymore. |

That's what my grandmother used to make us do. Trust me, the pepper works a lot better. My grandmother was from Ireland so salt and water were a cure all for anything mouth/throat related. Your gums are bleeding, gargle salt water, sore throat gargle salt water, bit your tongue off, gargle salt water... |

um yeah, about the hurting part....it hurts just the same as eating something really really spicy. It only lasts a minute or two and then you'll feel so much better that it is totally worth it. |

Back in my rock and roll days I used to go to the health food store and get Slippery Elm throat lozenges.
No voice in the afternoon... singing like a bird by show time!

| Even though you need to talk in your line of work and you need to work, the best way to really get rid of that sore throat is to get some rest. Learned that the hard way, tried to push myself before just ended up losing more productivity when it got worse. |

...other words...why don't you keep your sick azz at home. I hated working with sick people that had no regard for their co-workers well being. Spreading their germs around and felt that the company would fall apart without their presence. It was a time home remedies could get you through many minor ailments however, I wouldn't trust them today. Miss Alina, if you have medical insurance use it...and having the assurance from your doctor will bring you better results and more of a piece of mind....other words you'll know what ails you...feel better!!! |

All the home cures in the world won't fix strep... It's good you got real meds... Lots of fluids and stay home...
PS... Wash hands a lot with hot water and soap... Hand sans don't real work... |

if you dont want to use the pepper trick - try hot tea and LOTS of lemon - that will do it as well - of course the salt water gargle is great for a sore throat too.
Good Luck hope you feel better - I know I had it TWICE two months back to back and felt like I had been hit by a truck - so try and rest as much as you can and let your husband do as much for the baby as possible - mask is great idea - but less contact rather than more....
fell better soon...... |

I did use my health insurace, hence the antibiotics and Tamiflu or can't you read? And I do have a private office in which to keep away from other people. My job is none of your nosy business Celia but I do have my own accounts and clients to attend to and I fail to see the benefits of sitting on my azz at home acomplishing nothing or sitting in my office and doing my job that supports my family... Maybe I should just quit and let the government pay my bills huh? Thanks Celia but you are the LAST person on this outpost I would take any advice from.

| I did try the Pepper trick... after cholking for about 20 minutes followed by downing a couple glasses of water and gargling with some salt water my throat was nmb for about 30 minutes than it started hurting again... I couldnt bring myself to do it again. I can see how it could work but the chest cough about killed me. I did however really apreciate my wonderful husband who not only took care of my son all night but also made me dinner and homemade tea from our herb garden and took great care of me... I even got breakfast in bed this morning! Just being taken care of so wonderfully was worth being sick! |

strep will start improving within hours of the first antibiotic pill.
or suffer for up two weeks without antibiotics and risk really getting sick and then needing a hospital stay.
A simple sore throat which you get with a cold...it not strep. |

| if you get the 5 day amoxicillin, your sore throat should be much better within the next 24 hours. As for the flu, OD yourself on nyquil, passout for the next 24 hours and you should be fine. If you can't find nyquil, vodka will do as well. |

If you have strep Zithromax or the generic Azitromyicin is much better. It's basically amoxicillan on steroids.
Its usually used on bacterial infections like strep.
It works so well it treat chlamydia and gonorrhea too (source: wikipedia).
