some railroad was a big time IPO like a week ago.

i think its funny how Buffet pretty much has to invent stuff to do with his money at this point. his bets on GE and Goldman were genius. his bet on the chinese car company was great too. now this. amazing.

He obviously does not believe that the country is going in the right direction.

Nice bet on America to pay off 5 to 20 years on out. That's fine but it's no indication of our current state other than our current state is so bad he sees it as time to buy something severely pummeled by our non existent economy.

Like factory orders out today, much ado about absolutely nothing in the context of our economic woe.

He believes that Americans will be riding train more often in due of high gas price and outrageous auto industry (high interest rates etc).

Sarcasm bud ... just sarcasm.

I am a true believer in our country's ability to overcome anything. Nothing will diminish my faith in the good old USA!

???? I hope he is right. My main concern is what goods are being transported on his American trains?

If it is a bunch of Chinese shiit, then screw him.

If it is American, get me some knee pads.

he is betting on goods will no longer be cost effective to transport across the country on big rigs. He is also betting big time on electric vehicles for the future. 18 wheelers cannot be powered by electric engines, but trains can.

most goods are put on trains for a simple reason...more cost effective than trucks.

train them from the ports...then truck the last little bit.

keeps trucks out of freeway traffic...

My area is starting to build in 2010...a new $200 million dollar rail hub, with up to 80 million sqft of warehouse space next to So Cal Logistics Airport...

damn thing is hugh...3,500 acre rail hub/yard with huge container storage...

>>>18 wheelers cannot be powered by electric engines, but trains can.

After looking into it, I think this is it...High speed trains could replace some airline routes as well...

This was a play on China, The two main lines connect on the west coast. They are also on of the largest transporters of Coal. And China is one of the few countries that are expanding in the global economy. What ever China cannot satisfy in its appetite for oil, coal is the best next resource.

This is one of the sources that mention it. There are more but this is the first I found:http://in.reuters.com/article/oilRpt/idINL424022320091104

Don't forget to buy your land next to the yard. It should include a Economy chain Hotel for all the railroad workers contract. along with industrial space for storage. and maybe a gas station that can accommodate trucks with trailers.
