Do you need a license if you work for a broker in California.

Yes, all CA LO's must have a RE Sales license - the same license a realtor holds. You can engage in both RE sales and loan origination under the same DRE license (only state where that's the case) http://www.dre.ca.gov/. No individual license is required if you work under a corporate umbrella license with a Cal Finance Lender Licensee under the Dept of Corporations and not the Dept of RE; however, you will have access to very few lenders because most lenders will not approve CFL licensees.

and the third option is originating for a Federally Chartered bank - a license isn't required.
