Watch the 50 second video here. Gibbs gets pressed on tax pledge and gets laughed at. Only it's no laughing matter.

http://hotair.com/archives/2009/06/29/video-press-corps-now-openly-laughing-at-obamas-backtracking-on-taxes/

Video: Press corps now openly laughing at Obama’s backtracking on taxes

It’s a laugh riot, isn’t it? Actually, they might be laughing more at Gibbs’s feeble way of ducking the question than The One’s looming broken promise, but in Gibbs’s defense, what’s he supposed to say? Obama pounded McCain for wanting to pay for health care by taxing benefits, rode into D.C. promising Change, and now he’s going to eat a crap sandwich by reversing himself because it turns out personal charisma doesn’t work on hard economic numbers. So Axelrod and company have to go out and face the firing squad and “explain” via stuttering half-answers why Barry O lied about this last year. It’s a political microcosm of Obama’s economic M.O.: They borrowed political capital by pledging “no new taxes” to win the election and now down the road the bill’s finally come due.

Elsewhere today, Gibbs declared that it’s okay to start judging the success of the stimulus. Over to you, Innocent Bystanders!

Hey, you gotta sell your soul first right? Just sell whatever crap the voters can buy and worry about it later. Hey... No matter what I will be remembered as the first black President right? Oh hey, I'm only half white... Spin spin.

Gibbs: "we're going to let it work it's way thru"

Thru what, my pocket?

Can you find this on CNN or mainstream media? If it is posted there, I'm sure Obama poll will shrink below 50%.

It's refreshing to see that smart smirk off Gibbs face. He was a cornered rat in that clip and he knows it.

The honeymoon is starting to crack......I imagine by Christmas, it'll be definitely over.

This and attacking McCain on taxing health care saying "it will be the largest tax increase in American history and cost you thousands, can you afford it?", now it's ok since he finally looked at the issue...

Y'all are talking about the liberal press laughing, right? The press that y'all say is biased?

Something about the intended thrust of this thread doesn't square up.

They have got to be the weakest WH press corp I've ever seen but I think there are too many broken promises even for them to stay quiet over...

I am seeing a pick up in stories about broken campaign pledges. I do believe it will gain momentum. I'm already seeing George the 1st's "read my lips, no new taxes" video and then replaying Bam Bam's pledge.

This never would've happened if a loan officer was running the Obama campaign. Any good LO knows to UPOD. Speaking of which, as loan officers, don't we know that all the campaign platforms are just GFEs?

The market is just not as good as it was when the campaign was there okay?? So don't complain about the points and discounts.

A good LO doesn't make promises they cannot keep.A good LO re-discloses if something does change. A good LO doesn't wait for the deal to fall apart to notify his clients. What ever happpened to transparency?

Only those that thought, out of the blue, a politician wasn't going to lie to them...Or they let their hatred of Bush cloud their reasoning and ended up empowering the govt to take cold-blooded advantage of them...

Wow, Chip Reid (CBS) and Helen Thomas both tore into Gibbs about the White House controlling the press. Watch it for yourself and tell me the honeymoon is still strong:

When it comes to "Super Pitchmen" I think that most of us will agree that Obama's style, staged audience seating for those in camera range, and meticulous speech preparation + teleprompter has outperformed even the slickest "infomercials".

"We" bought the brightly wrapped box containing the unspecified elements of "CHANGE" in part due to our pent-up frustrations with 8-years of Bush-Cheyney and a crumbling economy. "we" were emotionally swayed by a very charismatic and highly skilled promoter who had assembled a masterful team of strategists.

Now, 120-days post inauguration "We" are rapidly discovering that the brightly colored box containing the much vaunted, but unspecified, "CHANGE" may in fact turn out to be a veritable "Pandora's Box".

The REAL problem facing us is the arrogance of "Super Power" that is inevitably associated with a Legislature that lacks political balance. Fact is that "We" have allowed the left-wing incumbents of both Congress and the Senate to be driving us fast down the freeway to socialism with a majority that virtually prevents filibustering.

Accompanying this reality is a growing sense that those voters who dare to directly question their elected representatives are being dismissed by the employees of many Congressmen and women and Senators as if they were ignorant "peasants and serfs".

"You voted us in, now shut-up and let us do as we please!"

Well, guess what.... a fair number of those power-crazed folks are setting themselves up for electoral displacement between now and the next General Election because "we" won't forget their betrayal, ignorance and indifference.

"We" are thirsting for some credible Independents, and Centrists representing both Parties to essentially restore a functioning and healthy democracy that can keep our Country free from extremes of either Left or Right.

Will the multi-trillion dollars of "In God We Trust" currency created to support Economic Revival work as planned? Will the promised hundreds of thousand of NEW jobs become reality or become a "David Copperfield" illusion expressed as "Look how many jobs the Program has saved". In other words, the pace of rising unemployment data will be shown as slowing down! Will this Economic Revival PUT FOLKS BACK TO WORK AND BRING OUR UNEMPLOYMENT RATIO BACK TO AROUND 5% ANYTIME SOON?

Will the barely understandable "Cap and Trade" hoax cause "us" to be faced with a staggering increase in our utility bills? Most citizens of European Countries are paying upwards of $0.26 per Kw for their electric power versus the U.S average of $0.09 per Kw.

Will the imposition of unchallenged Health Care Reform lead to major direct/indirect tax increases and a lack of medical options with inevitable restrictions on who qualifies for what and when?

While I personally happen to like Obama's style of International outreach and desire to convey an improved image of the USA and his desire to "make things happen" on the home front, I do seriously question the fundamentals of the domestic agenda and what seems to be a lack of timely due consideration of policy-in-haste consequences.

They don't care, Obama could start rounding up Jews and his followers would not have a problem with it. This guy has more get out of jail free cards than Parker Brothers.
