I thinkt the format of this debate is the best so far and I like that the two candidates are being allowed to go at it without much interruption by the moderator.
Even score so far. |

| I think it is even with one exception; John McCain is doing exactly what he should have been doing in the other debates. He will narrow the score tonight, but I can't see him winning in November. |

I think Obama carries and expresses himself better and to people not as in tuned as most here, could easily convince more, regardless of whether he has the better plans or not, to believe him...MUCH of this is just like sales, you may have the better product, but if my people skills are better, I can take it...That's how I see Obama to McCain, I hate McCain's ideas less, but he is far from as good a communicator as Obama and that's a major plus when dealing with the general public...So if things are even, I have to give it to Obama as I know 'less' educated in the current state as most here, will more than likely lean towards Obama...NOT saying less educated, less aware of details of current state...
Only because I don't think Obama addresses the spreading the wealth issue well, I am giving it to McCain as that one issue is the thorn in my side right now...Nothing else either of them propose means anything to me more than that thinking process from our leader...He could say he's going to have Ayers head Homeland Security and I wouldn't care as much...JMHO... |

I agree.
The masses are easily convinced by a good sales pitch.
Obama's sales pitch is better ... and unfortunately ... that's what matters in modern American politics.

| No game changer, but it will tighten the race a bit. I think if McCain doesn't pull closer within the next week as a result of this debate, Obama has it in the bag. |

See, you finally understand why RP can't get anywhere and doesn't get the attention he deserved, it's not the message, it's the messenger...It doesn't mean he's a 'bad' person in any way... |

I'm aware of that.
He's had his moments ... but they've been few and far between.
Personally, when it comes to those seeking political office, I like someone who shoots from the hip and doesn't sound too polished ... while spitting out talking points from memory.
That's the one thing I love about Ron Paul. No script is necessary ... because he KNOWS what he believes ... and why.

You scare me when you make so much sense. I agree with you. To get elected, being a great messenger is more important than the message.

I know quite a few plumber, electricians and other such "small business" people. They would gladly trade no work now for work and income on which they pay taxes.
By the way, Joe The Plumber is no different than most originators ... a single practioner and not an employer. |

Sad for Sen. McCain. He is a Very Honorable man. I do not, and likely never will, support the majority of his views. Had he simply related to the viewer, rather than attack the opponent, he would have faired better.
Sen. McCain scores best when he connects on a human basis. When he relates his own experience of pain and suffering. Had he said, "I know pain and suffering, and I know the American people are hurting now. In a McCain administration I will never let the American people go thru what they are enduring now"
When Sen. McCain equates Sen. Obama with a terrorist, and you look at the split screen, and see a calm, intelligent, articulate opponent. It tarnishes Sen. McCain, and makes him look desperate. This has not been Sen. McCains finest hour.

You said it better than I could have. It's a bit tough to see such a great guy go this route. I hope there are better days ahead for the man as he surely deserves it more than just about any other politician I can name. |

Does this not sound like a put down of McCain's own Supporters with the fringe comment?
McCain strongly defended his supporters, saying "I am proud of the people who come to our rallies ... You're always going to have some fringe people." |

Found this one someone's blog and he took it right out of my mouth.
"Has anyone actually read this?! Come on...has Obama even taken a single economics course? Wealth redistribution NEVER works!!! This country's citizens have the wealthy, the innovative, the entrepreneurial, and the risk takers to thank for their jobs and their paychecks. When those individuals are forced to take cuts in their own pay, they take it from their employees or they pass it on to the consumers. They use their business acumen to figure out how to evade the increase in taxes. How do you think stock options became so popular...why do you think the AMT had to be put into place? What will the motivation be for individual small business owners to grow their business? When did a raise, and health care, and a house, and a new car, and equal pay for unequal work become rights in this country? If you want more or you need more, work harder!!! "

By far McCain's best debate, but he is still just too boring a person to gain any steam in this MTV world.
These hand-picked moderators and questions are just crap. I've never been this bored by a set of debates... ever. There's more action in a soap opera. |

That's exactly what I thought last night watching that. McCain just doesn't debate that well, he stutters and stammers, at least he didn't say "my friends" over and over.
Truthfully, if I was an uninformed voter and I watched that debate, hands down I would vote for Obama, good thing I am informed and won't be sucked in by his BS. |

Comments like yours and Kbaker's are in poor form (IMHO), I have yet to see those who oppose Obama collectively demonstrate a higher level of knowledge, sophistication, and wisdom than those who support Obama.
Comments like those above reek of sanctimony and arrogance. |

I just wish Obama would be called to the carpet on a few very basic economic issues. In the same breath last night he complained that we can't cut taxes on corporations and that we have to do something about outsourcing. Step one should be to ELIMINATE corporate taxes! That would immediately make American workers more competetive and drive growth in our economy. His plan to increase taxes on "Joe the Plumber" will do exactly the opposite. Also, his comment he always makes about "we need to use a scalpel". BS! WE NEED THE HATCHET TO CONTROL SPENDING! I could go on and on but I have to go to an appointment. |

| the reason McCain cant call Obama to the carpet is that he doesn't have a plan either. That $5k health care tax credit-but your on your own was really brilliant. The sad fact is that neither candidate will help us as mortgage brokers out or stop home prices from continuing to fall. Therefore the election all comes down to foreign policy cause that's where the answer is right now unfortunately. |
