Just traded '94 C280 for '96 Grand Cherokee...I am the anti-car person, they are ALL depreciating pieces of rubber and metal and I will never spend but so much on them just sit outside...When I used to drive 45 miles one way to work I drove nothing but new cars for the reliability, we drive less than 400 miles a month now(only fill up once a month and get 400 to a tank) so we just don't have the "need" for better...I "need" a dune buggy to tear up these fields around here!!!!!

Is this thread going to lead into something about people who drive Hummers and have "save the planet" bumper stickers?

I was wondering the same thing........where is this thread going? Why do we care what others drive?

It's an off topic discussion that I was just wondering about. It doesn't matter if you drive a Hummer or Prius, either way it's fine. It was simply started for fun. :)

A paid-for 2002 Ford Explorer. My mileage is very low, so even when gas was over $4.00 a gallon, while a pinch, it wasn't overly painful. Besides, I like the weight - I have been rear-ended 2 times and neither time did I get more than a scratch. Different story for the other cars, lol.

2001 Escort with 111k miles. Free and clear, 33 mpg. Just put $700 into it for timing chain and a few other refreshments.

I grew up on SUVs & Trucks and will probably always drive them due to my lifestyle.

I currently own a '00 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, 4.7L AWD w/ 3" Flowmaster Cat-back and AirAid Throttle body spacer. Slams through all the snow, sand and mud I could ever want to take on!!

I don't share your gas mileage, but I have been on the receiving end of turned up noses among some high end car drivers (which is one advantage, you never have to drive, lol). Every month now, they cry about being able to make their car payments (plural) and/or mortgage, or, how deep into their 401 they will have to dip into this month.

So, what do you let go first? The house or the car? Many are losing both.

I have a 01 Chrysler Sebring Sedan and an 01 Ford F-150 Ford Supercrew (4 door). I am looking at picking up an 06 or 07 Ford Expedition Eddie Bower edition for around $16K. I rented one for my last trip to UT. 4x4, fully loaded and gets close to 16 MPG. It has a 5.4L and will tow up to 9000 lbs. These things have dropped so much its incredible.

I have an 06 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer, bought new (I know, but zero interest) and I truly hope it is worth more than $16K. I never bought it to sell, we have a boat and needed a heavy duty towing package. I am now depressed, I am sure you are probably right.

Now is a great time to buy things.

2002 Trailblazer here. Where did you find such a deal? My daughter could use a new car, something a little more stylish. She is sick of her Sunfire.

I approached the seller. They just bought a new car without selling the old one and found themselves with too many payments. I made an offer to purchase it for the remainder of the loan. The seller did not want to hassle with listing and having to show the car….. Not sure why they did not trade it in? I think he was convinced he would get more on the open market but did not follow through.

This is the 2nd time I have purchased a car outright for WAY below market value using this method.

my neighbor is currently selling an 87 325i w 32,000 miles on it for $2,000. i think i might scoop it. this car is way too mint. white w tan, moon roof, 5 speed. the 02 for $3500 is clearly a steal, but id take the 87 for that money too.

Hybrids are a joke. They only claim to get 20 mgp in the first place, why bother for 2 mpg?

That IS a steal! That engine is bullet proof, 25mpg HiWay, and if anything goes wrong, there are a ton of cheap parts available. Good Luck!

2006 Chrysler 300C (gas mileage is... ahh hell crappy)

Love the car but I will never buy anything like that again. The money I spent for that thing was stupid (and yes I knew it at the time), but it was the one toy I wanted. Luckily, still not doing bad and the bills are getting paid. I just hink of how much more I could have put into svings without that car.

Before that, I only drove Jeeps, and I will have another after this vehicle.

2007 Trailblazer SS AWD with a bit of stuff done to it.

2002 s-10 PU with a few enhancements as well.

1970 Pontiac Lemans Sport with too many things done, and still climbing.

I work on and build cars as a hobby. A hobby that will probably put me in the poorhouse sooner or later.
