| He did give a good speech, but don't they all? I wish there was a way we could ask them if we could sue them personally if they don't deliver. |

That is a great idea! Obama would lose the $4m he made last year on his book.

Or McCain could lose all the properties he owns, it is all the same...lot's of words until they get into office. I did like his words on changing washington but I'm not seing it going anywhere. That is where our culprits are, not who will be president. |

Palin's Convention Speech Brings in Cash for Obama
Sept. 4 (Bloomberg) -- Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin is bringing in campaign cash for the Democrats as well as her own party.
ADVERTISEMENT Barack Obama, 47, reported raising at least $10 million from more than 130,000 donors today after Palin, the Alaska governor, addressed the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota, and criticized the Democratic presidential nominee.
And did anyone see the article from AP News about all the facts she had wrong in her speech.

Fact check on Palin’s speech: Attacks, praise stretch truth
By Jim Kuhnhenn Associated Press
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her Republican supporters held back little Wednesday as they issued dismissive attacks on Barack Obama and flattering praise on her credentials to be vice president. In some cases, the reproach and the praise stretched the truth.
Some examples:
PALIN: “I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending ... and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress ‘thanks but no thanks’ for that Bridge to Nowhere.”
THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a “bridge to nowhere.”
PALIN: “There is much to like and admire about our opponent. But listening to him speak, it’s easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform — not even in the state senate.”
THE FACTS: Compared to McCain and his two decades in the Senate, Obama does have a more meager record. But he has worked with Republicans to pass legislation that expanded efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to help destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. The legislation became law last year. To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, a respected foreign policy voice in the Senate. In Illinois, he was the leader on two big, contentious measures in Illinois: studying racial profiling by police and requiring recordings of interrogations in potential death penalty cases. He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation.
PALIN: “The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars.”
THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama’s plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain’s plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.
Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families.
He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes above $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise.
MCCAIN: “She’s been governor of our largest state, in charge of 20 percent of America’s energy supply ... She’s responsible for 20 percent of the nation’s energy supply. I’m entertained by the comparison and I hope we can keep making that comparison that running a political campaign is somehow comparable to being the executive of the largest state in America,” he said in an interview with ABC News’ Charles Gibson.
THE FACTS: McCain’s phrasing exaggerates both claims. Palin is governor of a state that ranks second nationally in crude oil production, but she’s no more “responsible” for that resource than President Bush was when he was governor of Texas, another oil-producing state. In fact, her primary power is the ability to tax oil, which she did in concert with the Alaska Legislature. And where Alaska is the largest state in America, McCain could as easily have called it the 47th largest state — by population.
MCCAIN: “She’s the commander of the Alaska National Guard. ... She has been in charge, and she has had national security as one of her primary responsibilities,” he said on ABC.
THE FACTS: While governors are in charge of their state guard units, that authority ends whenever those units are called to actual military service. When guard units are deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, for example, they assume those duties under “federal status,” which means they report to the Defense Department, not their governors. Alaska’s national guard units have a total of about 4,200 personnel, among the smallest of state guard organizations.
FORMER ARKANSAS GOV. MIKE HUCKABEE: Palin “got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska than Joe Biden got running for president of the United States.”
THE FACTS: A whopper. Palin got 616 votes in the 1996 mayor’s election, and got 909 in her 1999 re-election race, for a total of 1,525. Biden dropped out of the race after the Iowa caucuses, but he still got 76,165 votes in 23 states and the District of Columbia where he was on the ballot during the 2008 presidential primaries.
FORMER MASSACHUSETTS GOV. MITT ROMNEY: “We need change, all right — change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington! We have a prescription for every American who wants change in Washington — throw out the big-government liberals, and elect John McCain and Sarah Palin.”
THE FACTS: A Back-to-the-Future moment. George W. Bush, a conservative Republican, has been president for nearly eight years. And until last year, Republicans controlled Congress. Only since January 2007 have Democrats have been in charge of the House and Senate.

Nothing serious, my kids decided they wanted to stay with me tonight (I have them part time) so I had football practice, homework, and dinner duties (I felt like a woman tonight, LOL!) And to top it off, I had a client try and argue over a $1,500 fee I was charging.
I imagine McCain gave a solid speech or at least as good as expected. I actually really like John McCain, I have lost a little respect for him lately but he is a good dude. |

that only shows how scared the Democrats are of the impact that her speech had on the American public last night. Trust me the Democrats biggest nightmare right now is: Gender Solidarity, and she is the perfect woman to rally behind. Her speech last night basically put Hillary on the backburner till 2012.
I'm telling you don't underestimate the women voting in this election. Sarah Palin has the X factor that will make female voters cross party lines in a heartbeat and once something like that starts gaining momentum it becomes a runaway train. The smartest thing the Republicans could do is maximize her exposure on camera for the next 61 days and go for the female vote and play up the oil drilling. If they rely on McCain only, their gonna get slaughtered on Election Day. |

What's been lost in the media coverage (stunningly), the McCain/Palin campaign has also raised a fortune since Governor Palin's speech. She is also scheduled to attend 30 fund raisers in the next 60 days. Also burried, believe it or not, the Obama campaign was anticipating money problems until the last 24 hours. It seems they were far outspending on advertising what they were bringing in.

Women voters have never been a monolithic voting bloc, ever. In fact I am pretty sure within SOME circles of women who can be considered swing voters, the Palin pick is perceived as an act of condescension. Her announcement was last Friday and as of right now McCain has pulled even in just 2-3 polls and that is probably due to conservatives coming into the fold. There have been no signs I am aware of that women or independents make up that increase.
Democrats have no reason to fear McCain/Palin however we do have to be concerned about mistakes down the stretch on the part of Obama/Binden. If they can coast it out from here they will be the first to reach 270 without a sweat. |

I watched a little bit of the speech and the lack of energy was clearly not the same as when Obama spoke. I did find it amusing that when the cameras panned the audience that they quickly moved their shot of some guy that was yawning and about the fall asleep. As for Palin helping with the women vote, don't count out the Hillary factor. She is scheduled to appear in Florida I believe tomorrow and I think she will show Palin what it is like to be in the big leagues. What McPalin does not get is that women will not flock over because of a female VP including one who is anti-choice and does not support abortion even in the case of incest or rape. |

Up until tonight he seemed to have distanced himself from his maverick reputation, I remember seeing him in an interview recently and he smirked at the notion that he was anything other than a Conservative. I also expected him to stay above the belt with the ads, however he killed me with the Paris Hilton ****. I thought that was weak.
I also question his judgement on the Sarah Palin pick. Up until now McCain has run a pretty fluid campaign which belies the conservative mantra of sticking to your principles. The quick shift to Palin, and a two week vetting process as opposed to the two month process he used for the others revealed a candidate who seems desperate to win.
And now after he has picked Palin, he is back to being the maverick, joining Palin and declaring we are outsiders!!
I could go on, but it is late and I feel like going for a run. Good night all. |

your right and the Giants had no chance last year against the undefeated Patriots who were already being called the greatest team of all time by the so called experts before they ever stepped onto the field. Funny how 60 minutes of play between the lines and Brady on his a55 half the game changed all that. Now their nothing more than an 18-1 Super Bowl runnerup trivia question. This election is far from over and IMO it's only started to get interesting. This game has just begun.

| I felt the speech was lacking, unfortunately. Lots of platitudes and rah rah but nothing that would win over the undecided(s) he needs. Inspiring as it may be, I'm afraid his war record isn't what people care about right now--our domestic financial/energy/healthcare collapse is. I thought Fred Thompson's speech was hands down the best of the convention. He must have been thinking damn...where was that when I needed it? |

| I'm not a sheep. I read the news. I was interested in what people had to say about his speech tonight, and you added nothing but links to support your point of view. It's obvious you don't have an opinion about his speech this evening, as you admitted you didn't watch it. So why flood the thread with your pointless bull****? What's that liberal think tank Soros runs? Oh yeah, Move On. You should. |

Did he really speak about the facts of what he wants to do
NO
that is the point
It was more slamming other people instead of talking about the issues
And by the way, I never have quoted or read anything from Move On |

| I liked McCain's speech, it showed a grateful public servant who loves his country. The only thing I didn't like about it was that it sounded like a retirement speech. It reminded me of MacAthur's "Old Soldiers never die, they just fade away." speech. |

Too bad he hasn't voted that way in the Senate.

Amen sister.
If Obama does everything he's promising, America is screwed.
Then, we can just start over ... and this time ... we'll keep an eye on our "Public Servants".
We really dropped the ball the first time around.

Maybe if you would have listened you would have heard that McCain recognizes what has taken place and how he DOES want to change things, and how he does want to put the $700B in foreign spending back into this country, and how he DOES plan to get jobs back to America, and what his perception is on the current state of the war.
Oh I forget, anything with the word Republican attached to it automatically means it is based on the last 8 years. Why are so many of you Liberals naive to the fact that McCain and Bush are not the same person???

Every politician says those things to get elected. Who would say, I don't want more jobs for americans? His speech was short on good ideas or meaningful change.
I shudder to think of his appointees to the supreme court if elected.
Enough said..... |

Fact check on SoCalRay's Truth-Bending Article
By Me Assassinated Press
"As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million."
Which is exactly what all Mayors do, seek funding for their specific town. You are unfairly comparing her to the tactics of a Washington insider instead of a municipal outsider, which is indeed what she was. It is not her "fault" if Congress gave it to her, her duty was to her constituents.
"In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation."
See above.
"While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a 'bridge to nowhere'.
Bottom line is that she did indeed truthfully state that she told them no. Calling her a liar is indeed stretching the truth. She told the TRUTH.
"But (Obama) has worked with Republicans to pass legislation..."
"Worked with" is not the same thing as sponsoring a passed law. I "work with" people every day, but I do not go to their job and perform their duties. Once again, she told the TRUTH. A waitress "works with" a Chef. It does not make her the Chef, does it?
"To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana... He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation."
I bolded the word that signifies exactly what the difference is between what she said about Obama and did NOT say about Luger. Comparing her comments stating a specific person to an unmentioned person makes the author of this article a truth-bending liar. She told the TRUTH.
"The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that..."
None of this dribble makes anything she said untrue. Obama DID say those things. She told the TRUTH.
"Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families."
As I have mentioned before on his Mandatory Health Care Plan, his breaks are given to those who do not work and penalize everyone who does. It is nothing more than the unoriginal concept of Welfare with new gift-wrapping.
Here is the problem with this type of Socialization... It's the Robin Hood syndrome, which sounds great in the beginning, but does NOT work in the long run. Although they wrongfully call this illusion "progress", when you take from the Haves (producers) and give to the Have-Nots (non-producers), you remove motivation from both sides to progress.
The Have-Nots lose any motivation to start producing in society, because everything is given to them anyway. The Haves eventually lose all motivation to produce, because everything is taken from them anyway. Given enough time, there are no producers left, production stops, and there is nothing to hand out anymore. The end result then leaves everyone as a Have-Not. That is not progress, compassion, or anything else except the death of the society.
"Palin is governor of a state that ranks second nationally in crude oil production, but she’s no more “responsible” for that resource..."
As the person elected Governor (ie - a person that governs) to administrate all resources of that State, she is indeed "responsible" for all of them. There is no 'Oil-Fairy' that magically flies over the State to keep watch.
"And where Alaska is the largest state in America..."
Go no further. Obviously no lie occurred, it can only be created by twisting or adding other words to what he actually said.
"While governors are in charge of their state guard units, that authority ends whenever those units are called to actual military service."
And how does changing their status to "Federal" make it a lie that she is in charge of the ALASKA National Guard prior to any change of status?
"HUCKABEE: Palin 'got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska than Joe Biden got running for president of the United States.'"
This would be known as a "joke", something that is obviously foreign to liberals when sweating in nervous pain.
"Only since January 2007 have Democrats have been in charge of the House and Senate."
And unless that fact has changed by the day he made his comment, his comment was the TRUTH. All he did was state his desire to change from that.
There is enough distortion in that article to make a Ron Paul supporter sue for trademark infringement. |

A real "thinker" would have never missed that speech. As it stands, you are merely a propagandist. |

Ask "sister" to read this too.
"McCain voted with the Democratic majority rather than the Republican majority on votes that put the two parties on opposite sides.
Obama and Biden, on the other hand, have both been more likely than the typical Democratic senator to vote with the Democratic party position. In each of his three full years, Obama voted over 95% of the time with the Democratic majority on party votes. McCain reached 90% only once, in 2007.Biden's party support level has hovered between about 90 to 95%. From these data, McCain can more credibly make the claim that he is willing to buck his party. He has voted against his party majority about 15 to 25% of the time across the Bush years, compared to about 3% for Obama and 5 to 10% for Biden." |

That's cute. You're just jealous because the guy you voted for can't sit in front of the Federal Reserve Chairman and carry on an intelligent conversation like Ron Paul does on a routine basis.

Ok, I'm in just for the hot babes. I'm not that way... Which one is mine?
Hey, where was the "We'll show you at the convention stuff"? I saw nothing. So what was it supposed to be, the activist protestors outside or something? I told you they'd end up in jail. |
