Anyone doing or know how to set up a company to locate past FHA clients that may be due a refund of upfront MIP ?

Could be a nice source of extra revenue

they can look right on HUD's website for free to see if they are due one.

you'd need the borrowers last name or case number to see.

i guess you can search recorders offices or title companies for FHA mortgages and go from there. no clue on what a good sucess rate would be, but if you can get anything, go for it.

my cousin got a letter from such a company telling him he is due a refund of ~ $800 and would charge 15% to "process the paperwork" to get his refund. needless to say, i gave him HUD's number to claim it for free.

I thought you need to fill out the form and send it back to HUD along with the mortgage satisfaction to get the refund , I never saw that info ( that you are due a refund ) on the HUD website

i have a family friend that made hundreds of million in the field of "lost and found property."

he developed a buisness in the 80s and killed it. he approached companies like western union who had millions and millions in undelivered funds. pepsi with uncollected prizes. and even found real estate in manhattan. he made crazy cash in this business, usually charging 8% to both sides of the transaction for making the link.
