I see where everyone finds humor in the plight of a former great city like Detroit.

I have been hearing about the steep decline in house prices in all of California.Pretty soon they will be low enough that we midwesterners can afford them. All the smug tree hugging Toyota lovers will have destroyed credit from overpaying on average houses. They will then be able to afford homes in Detroit. We, along with all the good folks from south of the border ,can then take over their fine homes in their wonderful communities, everyone will be happy.

Snow and ice can be enjoyable.

It's only those in pain bro...It's sad to see the demise of any great city like Pittsburgh(do they even make steel there still?), Baltimore(the port is all they have left), DC(nuff said) and now Detroit...These were landmark towns that are now considered the arm pits of their respective states...

Did some checking, Using very approximate numbers via Realtytrac, L.A. has caused lenders and banks to lose over 2 billion dollars, same for San Diego.

City of Detroit, 1 billion . Detroit will survive.

Detroit will likely see a slow steady growth as the auto industry starts dusting off old plants in an attempt to produce more fuel efficient vehicles. Chrysler is investing $1.8B in the remodel of a plant in Detroit as announced today.

Those $500 dollar homes may very well be the smartest buy if you can buy, fix and hold.

What more could you ask for. The best greek food outside of Greece and the worst football team over the past 20 years. How 'bout those Lie-Downs?

Before you say it...yes we know about the Red Wings, the Pistons and the sometimes Tigers!

Most of Michigan is a vacation paradise. I have an attorney friend in the Traverse City area.

Brad, the Lions have stunk for most of my life , over 50 years.

You LA chumps, remember Kirk Gibson? From day one he was on track to be MVP when he joined up with a bunch of clowns.

The part of Cali where we are in not in a steep decline, but does have a ton of tree hugging Prius driving liberals. Northern Cali, Eureka.

Ben,

The coldest I have ever been was my freshman year of college near St. Joe on Lake Michigan. I gre-up in Idaho and thought I knew what snow and ice and cold were all about...wrong!

Don't include me in the LA chumps category. I have never supported any LA team. Go Steelers, Red Sox, Celtics and the Broad Street Bullies! When I grew-up we had no professional teams in the Northwest! (Do the Sonics & Blazers count?)

I have a pronounced affection for the Patriots, what with Tom Brady quarterbacking the U.of M.

A few years ago there were 7 active pro football quarterbacks, all from the U.of M.

Surprisingly, not all of Southern Cali is in decline. My cousin just accepted an offer for her house in the Santa Monica canyons for $1,950,000 for which she only paid $1,595,000 in 11/06.

When it's all said and done, I believe California and all of the BS mortgages there will have done in one state more monetary losses for lenders than the rest of the country combined.

Bend Over - why don't you keep your negativity in your state? Detroit is never coming back unfortuneately for all involved. Michigan is on the downgrade due to the big 3 declining. So please keep your east coast biases to yourself. And a question for you - why is the town across the river so beautiful and nice? Why?

Someone needs a geography lesson. Since when is Michigan considered the East Coast?

Yea, I was shocked that someone can still make a profit in this market. You may be right about the appraisal though. I'm hoping the buyer has lots of down payment and doesn't care if it appraises lower because this cousin is not my favorite person and I'd love for her to close the sale and move away. Maybe she can go to Michigan?

blah blah blah - Why do you consider Michigan as part of the East Coast? By that rational I guess Nevada would be considered the Midwest and Oklahoma is a country in South America. If I was you I would avoid that Smarter than a 5th Grader show.

Isn't Wachovia out of bidness?

Windsor is beautiful as it has the same geography as Michigan. It also does not have a bunch of Californians or Mexicans .

You said specifically East Coast. You actually thought Michigan was on the East Coast. No wonder Wachovia is going down the tubes.

Why are you asking me? I've never been there. I am from Seattle. I am a West Coaster born and raised.

NOTE : Attention citizens of the rest of the country : Big Fire does not speak for us. Most of us West Coasters know the basic geography of our country and would never consider Michigan to be on the East Coast.

Windsor, like Detroit, is full of hard working ,beer drinking, blue collar "workers".

Not wine sipping ,tree hugging , pompous a holes, like CA. You all thought that you were above reproach, now the rest of the country will have to bail out your selfcentered, sunscreened, opera singing sobs.

Wachovia and Countrywide reps may want to become friendly asap, you most likely will be sharing a small room together.
