I was just thinking about the old days and how much fun i used to have in this business.I'm not complaining now,it's just different.I remember in '94 when i was a broker in PA with a Hungarian guy as a business partner. What a freakin mess that was,but man we were makin money.Out of the blue one day he comes in to the office in his brand new Benz and says i'm leaving and moving to AZ....stunned i asked what the hell are you talking about? He just looked at me and laughed and said(i'll never forget it)I'm taking all the money with me and leaving you with the shop.At the time that was about 100k or so.
Naturally this didn't go over too well with me,one thing led to another and we wound up having a fight in the parking lot.6 cop cars were dispatched.I thought for sure that i was going to jail......nope,i wound up writing a 1003 on the trunk of a the cop car and got the get out of jail free card, made 5k on the cop and got all my money back and never looked back.

Got a better story, let's hear it.

THESE ARE THE NEW GOOD OLD DAYS!!!!!

Thanksgiving, mid 1980's, the excess 80's. Everyone doing real fine (but back then 160K was a huge loan). It was decided we would have a feast in the office before the actual holiday. Picture an office rearranged so 7 eight foot long tables were set up as one huge buffet line. From the hunters roast pheasant, wild turkey (each trying to out-do each other). Hams, (real) turkeys, shrimp, smoked salmon......whatever the non-cooks could order from their favorite restaurant (and again, trying to out-do each other). Completely decadent.

At 11:00 AM, the processors start setting up things and we are just minutes away from the all-call to come to the luncheon. Front desk gets a call, bomb threat. 911 immediately called and response team there in no time (across the street), building evacuated.

12:05 PM We are told the dogs can only do their job correctly if all the food is put away. 12:10 PM We wave good bye to dogs and go eat. Funniest thing I have ever seen, bomb threat? Food? The Prez said if you are the least bit concerned or fear for your safety to please go home and come back when given the green light. They would bring the dogs in over the holiday to double check. No one went home.

I think some of the stuff they used in Boiler Room came from First Plus

I was not there when they shut down, but have a friend that was there.

At 8pm, they made an anoucement that they were closing abd my friend was on a call, so he did not hear the overhead. All of the sudden, his phone was dead. he stood up and saw eveyrone mulling around with long faces. Someone told him was going on.

Well no one was leaving the building, so the security guards pulled the fire alarm and everyone left.

It is crazy to think back about how antiquated the technology was just 10 years ago. You had to wait for your appraiser to get his film developed before they could deliver the appraisal. Remote print credit reports. Actual typewriters to type up the 1003. You had to have title fax a property profile. I'm sure others could add to the list.....

The building still has the Signage on it in Mission Viejo.

It has been closed since Oct 15 1998

Reason I remember the date is it is my birthday and everyone showed up at Dave and Busters because they did not have anywhere else to go.

we had planned to go ahead of time and there must of been 250-300 people at D & B

I'll never forget one of the dumbest mistakes I ever made on a First Plus loan. I think it was them that had a "stated value" 125% 2nd mortgage. The rookie that I was, I didn't state the value high enough to do the loan.......I didn't hear the end of that one for a while...

Urban Legend that is True

There is an urban legend in OC that a loan officer who was doing his own lcosing to make the notary fee also and the borrower had an heart attack. He followed them to the hospital and finished the signing in the ICU.

It is a true story.

Know the loan officer and 5 people that worked in same office at the time.

I liked the short stint I had at Ditech BEFORE GMAC tookover, when Paul Reddum was the owner. I know it was just a cookie cutter order taking shop but I processed & made great dough so it was fun.

It basically resembled OCC during the day & a hot nightclub in the evening. The little courtyard they had was a cool place to relax on the last day of the month. Back then you had El Torito or TGIF to hang out @ without having to drive. Well, good times back then...no more.
