Kilpatrick faces felony assault charge today BY M.L. ELRICK, JIM SCHAEFER, BEN SCHMITT and JOE SWICKARD • FREE PRESS STAFF WRITERS • August 8, 2008
Shortly after Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick wakes up in jail this morning -- still reeling from becoming the first sitting mayor in Detroit's 307-year history to spend a night behind bars -- Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox is expected to charge him with felony assault.
The announcement will come just 25 hours after the onetime political wunderkind went to court Thursday, with plans to waive a preliminary examination and speed his way to trial on perjury and other charges from the text message scandal. Instead, he wound up getting locked up.
Kilpatrick appeared devastated when 36th District Judge Ronald Giles, speaking in low-key tones from the bench, made his blockbuster ruling: The mayor's unauthorized trip to Windsor last month, a bond violation, had earned him a court-ordered trip to the Wayne County Jail.

You can blame him for wanting to get out of Detroit for a few hrs every now and then. Probably helps him maintain his sanity. Being stuck in Detroit for the duration of your probation might be considered 'cruel and unusual punishment' |

What is so sad about it? It is acknowledged that his wife Elizabeth has known about it for almost 2 years. Both of them covered up this information all during the campaign and even as late as October 2007 when confronted by reporters.
Sad for their children, sure.
But for them? not a chance. They contributed to making this a bigger story by covering it up and denials, thereby hurting their children further.
Maybe he needed advice from Billary.

It is not in the tabloids. It is mainstream media like CNN, FOX, etc.
We should be used to this by now, just another Dem hypocrite in a denial, crash & burn.

Hey quit dogging Detroit! They have fantastic industry, sports teams, food, low crime rate, housing market... Well, after thinking about it, do you think we can sell the city to Canada? |

Even the great restaurants have closed.
The New Hellas Cafe on Monroe St is shuttered (had been around a zillion years - OPA!). Maybe having the Motown Casino across the street wasn't such a great thing.
And Boo Coo is no longer (well, it was right outside of Detroit, but a great dining spot nonetheless). What a culinary delight.
We've eaten at both.
The high fulutin' Rattlesnake Club still serves their overpriced, trendy meals, but I wonder how long they will last.
Man, I agree, Detroit has problems when the famous eateries fold up !

What is cool about Detroit is when a major sports team wins a championship, they have a huge bon-fire, burn down a few buildings and turn over some cop cars in celebration.
That's good stuff right there!
Not only that, but on the few loans I did in Detroit, the fire insurance in downtown is like $4,000 a year on a 1,500 sq ft SFR.
Add this to the tundra like ground in the winter, the albatross sized skeeters in the summer, and the sweeping decline of the rust belt, what is not to like about that?
Bring me a 5.6 earthquake any day.

Isn't Farmington Hills the high rent district? The CC & R's don't allow no skeeters.
I'm not sure that Detroit breathes the same air as you all do, right?

The problem with this is two fold, no 1, that he lied to the press last year and 2 because he's a dem the press believed him.

Not very surprising. There is not much left in Motown to fight over. most of the so called good Americans are buying Foreign cars, sending profits overseas.
Be prepared for a very long declining housing market. |

I thought those illegals went into hiding when the census bureau came around which would make LA's pop higher
The point I was trying to make was that you cant revitialize a city that is losing 1/2 of their residents (see Newark), whereas you can if your gaining population (see Miami)
Detroit is going about reconstructing the city the right way w the Renaissance Center Renovation, the Casinos and building Comercia Park, Ford Field and Joe Louis Arena in downtown vs the suburbs etc. Unfortunately they still have a long way to go, and it needs to start w the Big 3 putting out a better product. |

A lot of those improvements and investment were brought in by Kilpatrick's predecessor Dennis Archer, whom everyone liked except for the militant black groups who threw Oreo cookies at him because they thought he was too cozy with the white business owners in the suburbs who he got to build new developments in the city. Kilpatrick is a joke. He got in because his father worked for the late Ed McNamara and his mother was a congresswomen who's district covered half he city.
I totally agree about the big three having to put out better product. If Ford sold the models here they sell in Europe, Asia and Australia they would not be having the problems they are having. |

New Hellas had a great corner spot and an Old World aura. Maybe the kids went into the mortgage business?
Boocoo (a play on the french beaucoup) was in Royal Oak on W. 14 mile. I guess it was unfair to lump that closing in with signs of Detroit's problems, but damn, we enjoyed dining there. It was just upscale enough.

Poor Kwame Kilpatrick! Has any body really read all the stuff this guy has been involved with, up to and including alleged murder. The hooker that went to his posh Mayors Mansion Party. When the Mayor's wife came home early only to find this hooker hanging all over her husband the Mayor. The mayor's wife began to fight with the hooker, which was brooken up by people at the party. Later when the party and all that went on there, especially the "Cost" of throwing it which was paid for by the tax payers, was being investigated, the alleged hooker was set to testify against the Mayor when they found her shot dead (18 - 20 shots) in her car with her boy friend who was injured, but survived. He said it was obvious someone didn't want her to testify. Sounds like The Mayor took a page out of Bill & Hillaries playbook.
To read about this fine human being, type in Kwame Kilpatrick, then scroll down to wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and read about all the great things he's done for the City of Detroit. Read about, "The Friends and Family Plan".
The City of Detroit deserves what they got, a hip hop piece of **** running their city. There have got to be better choices for these positions at the City, State and Federal level. If you don't think politicians are crooks, just follow the dollar, your dollar, as in taxation. Look into all the various taxes you pay - add a tax to this increase that tax, and now they want to have a government run health care program, get ready your taxes are going up. They can't even run Social Security, how are they going to run health care. No wonder this country is falling apart (We need to start running Government like a Private Business).
I've heard rumor Dave Bing (Ex-Detroit Piston & Owner of Bing Steel)might run. The guy is a class act. A Leader. Would be awesome for Detroit. Unfortuately our good politicians can't get anything done at any level of government, because it's like steering a cruise ship with an oar. If anything, everyone of us, Republican or Democrats should be screaming to make sure we are heard that they lower our taxes, both Corporate & individual taxes.
Enough said, I'm off to take my employee drug test, so I can keep my job and keep paying my taxes so the government can give my tax dollars to someone in real need of assistance, such as a crack horror with 14 kids who isn't mandated to take a drug test to receive the benefits, money she then spends on more crack and not the kids as was intended. What a great systems.
Sorry for venting, but how in the world do we allow this kind of stuff to happen. Are the American people that dumb? We better wake up soon or we'll be paying 80% in taxes and wondering why we even go to work in the first place.
Good Day! |
