Oh man, you NY brokers are in for a treat. Brett is an absolute JOY to watch play.

Yeah, he isn't God, but he gives you HOPE in every game. Thank God I don't have to watch the Packers just to watch him anymore! I may even buy that beautiful Jets jersey.

The Packers screwed Favre royally on this one, but in the end.....he just didn't have the leverage that he thought he had. There was no way in hell that GB was going to let him stay in the division - possibly the conference, but they eliminated that possibility too by sending him to the AFC, in the same division as the Patriots! Ouch. I feel bad for the guy, but all I can say is that I hope GB ***** big time this year and that Rogers gets his ass handed to him, maybe GB's front office will realize that they made a big mistake in trading Favre. But I wish him all the best.

Sorry, Farve royally screwed the Packers, for the past five or six years he has contemplated retirement each year only to come back at the last minute. This year he finally does it, the Packs move on and then he decides to come back and wants to start. He can't play forever and GB has been waiting for a few years for Rodgers to play.

They did what they had to do, they don't want to compete against him and with the Jets they won't have to. They'll be lucky if they even make the playoffs

Bottom line the Packers a letting Favre go because of competing egos, instead of keeping him as the starting QB which would have given them a chance to make it to the SB; they have no chance now.

I agree, BUT, if he wants to play, GB should not let him put on another uniform...It would have been like letting Cal Ripken leave the orioles after he became the Iron man, you just don't even if it means kissing the prima donnas ***(If he can still play)...He doesn't have much longer and the revenue will always be welcome by the team and city...

Sorry, if he had wanted to play he would not have retired. Regardless of his disposition to play, the Packs have been told every year that this would be his last one, finally he retired and they decided to move on, then halfway through camp he decides to come back. The team was already groomed for Rodgers and they needed to move on. If they were in a position where they had no other option, then yes, but they have a young QB who, if he doesn't play this year will probably leave and they will be left with nothing. This is what the Packs have to do to move on. Their future depends upon it.

I get that, and from a business standpoint I understand it...But I think there is a bigger picture when it comes to some of these guys and they need to stay where they created the legacy, like Ripken, Staubach, Marino, Unitas, Jordan, Montana and Starr...Unless they can't perform, they need to stay and play...JMHO...

According to on of the news channels here in Wisconsin...he thought going to New York would be better because he loves to hunt and fish. Favre thought that Flordia wouldn't be too good for that.

I have to say they screwed this up royally...I can't wait for Ted Tompson and Mcarthy to get the boot for this crap...I don't remember Elway being asked every year if he was retiring...Why would you ask a guy who just got you to the NFC championship if he is going to retire...I am so pissed off at the Packers that I really hope Brett makes it to the Bowl...As for the poison pill in the contract I think we deserve to se him in a Vikings uniform after the way we treated him...THis ***** because now I have to watch the Jets...I will miss U #4.

The news reported last night that Favre wanted to go in the locker rooms and say hi to everyone after the family night and the head security told him sorry brett no can do. What a huge slap in the face after he has brought so much excitement to wisconsin. I came to the realization that I am a favre fan, not a Green Bay fan!

Favre is one of the greatest QB's ever and with that being said...no matter the team...he will always make things exciting to watch. I look at it this way...I will now not have to worry about missing the first part of the season while I am watching NASCAR or having to flip the channels back and forth between the two.

Rodgers will be hurt in the first few games and the Pack will be left with nothing. Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy are going to regret being a**es when that happens.

Does anyone know are they still going to retire his jersey now on the 8th of Sept??

for those of you that have posted your comments about how Favre has been saying for the last 5 yrs now that he was thinking of retiring, that is true. But my God, if most football fans around the country sort of knew that he very well might come back....especially after how GB and Favre played last year, then GB's front office should have been thinking the same thing. This BS about how GB 'needed to move on' - what a bunch of crap. My God, you're talking about one of the all time best QB's in the history of the game. yeah, I know it's a royal pain in the a__ when he's been saying this stuff about retiring off and on for the last 5 yrs or so, but he's not the first sports superstar to do that.

Bottom line, is that GB still doesn't know what they have in Rogers (big, big risk), but he sure as hell is no Favre. Everybody knows that. And when Montana went to KC, didn't SF have Steve Young? Big difference there between SF having Steve Young and GB having Rogers.....case closed on that one. It's a risk that GB's front office took and now we'll see how it plays out. If I was a GB fan, I'd be furious as what just happened.

But being from Seattle, where Favre has knocked us out of the playoffs twice now recently, I guess I should be happy that he's in the AFC now, but somehow I wanted him to stay at GB and see if Seattle could ever beat them in the playoffs with him!! Last year's playoff game with GB was a smoke job....painful.

Here is what I got out of the whole mess between Favre, Thompson, and McCarthy. Thompson is the worse communiator when it comes to the coachs and players. He leaves it up to McCarthy to state what Thampson is trying to say.

McCarthy is only wants to focus on the players and the game. Plus he did not need the distaction of the whole mess affecting the other players.

Favre has been teetering between playing and retiring for years now and to come back after saying he is retiring and wait for the 11th hour to say I am coming back is just BS. The Packers already stated figuring out what they need to do to make it a winning year. McCarthy was right by telling Favre; Hey the traqin is leaving are you in or out.

Also Tampa did not want Favre, because he would had to learn all new game plays.(Non-users of the west coast offense.) Who knows that Favre can learn it that quick and they are happy with their QB.

Brett Favre has been a great QB.

However, his timeline with the Jets will go something like this:

Preseason exhibition games: he will play sparingly, like starting QB's
on any NFL team.

Game 1: Favre will have a ho hum game, but the Jets fans and media will tolerate it. Jersey sales will keep climbing, if the online site doesn't keep crashing.

Game 2: Brett will show some flashes of brilliance, giving everybody hope.

Game 3: he will be mediocre. Fans will show the first signs of impatience, and the media will be critical. Favre has never had to contend with the New York media. It can be brutal.

Game 7: Favre will be blaming his teammates, pointing fingers on the field and off.

Game 8: There will be injuries nagging Favre. He will lash out at the media.

End of season: Brett Favre will either announce his retirement (because of injuries, or whatever, depending on which old retirement speech he pulls out of the drawer). There will be the usual tears. OR, he will be traded to Tampa Bay for $1 and a last round draft pick.

Of course I do not really know what will happen, but the above might be very close.

ps. I didn't conduct a poll, but it seems that half the fans in MS love him, the other half feel that he is a prima donna par excellence (no, they don't express it in exactly those terms)

He has accepted responsibility and been a really decent guy.

It doesn't matter what he does with the Jets, the only timeline they have is "Please, God, help us win more than 4 games!" Brett is there because they only have untested QBs that stink. Sounds VERY familiar!!! When that's all you have, you don't get RID of a veteran QB, you go get one! The Jets have done this correctly.

Favre did not contemplate retirement so much as Ted Thompson kept contemplating it for him. They drafted Rodgers after Favre broke his thumb, but PLAYED. Ever since that day, the first thing Thompson did after the season was immediately ask Brett if he was going to retire... He even did it the day after they drafted Rodgers!!! It never really came up before that. This guy is a jerk who wants HIS guy and Brett wasn't HIS guy. Every new GM wants to clean house. Only an egotistical fool wants to clean out a legend.

Bottom line, this would have never happened anywhere else. Favre sells tickets and merchandise... LOTS of it. There is quite a history of Packers retiring and coming back after the "train" left. Don Hutson did it FIVE times. Jordan and Lemeiux did it. Lots of great athletes have done it. Only Favre has been told he was not welcome back.

The final straw was them telling him he was welcomed back, just to make him sign that paper and lose his advantage of going to a good team, then they refused to let him in the door. That right there tells you who was lying during all of this fiasco. They even lied to the commissioner and said he could come back to compete. It's awful hard to compete if they lock you out.

I defer to y'all who are closer to the Packer scene than I am, concerning what transpired in Green Bay.

But I have a ominous feeling about Favre with the Jets in New York.

Frank, he's only in NY to sell tickets and so the other QBs can learn. They need it and they have nothing to lose. Pennington's body has been destroyed and their young guys aren't even close to ready. I'm sure that the Jets are not fooling themselves into thinking of a Super Bowl.

However, their schedule is so easy they could win 11 games with their new O-line. This will allow them to finally attract better players. Even if Favre gets hurt, he's around all year to teach the other guys.

But on his end, I guarantee you that Favre comes to play. I've never seen him slack on the field. There's no way he's not an improvement in NY. Hell, I'd be an improvement!

As for Rodgers, players have been afraid to shower around him since college. He better grow a 'beard' before one of them punches him out. It's about to get real whacky in GB.

you have to remember that Rogers was a 1st round draft choice so you gotta guess the Packer have $15-$20million invested in him. Their not gonna pay that kinda money to have him hold for Xtra pts. Normally 1st round draft choices are full time starters their second yr in the league at the latest. First round draft picks are too valuable to have, to have em riding the pine. That's why Lienart will start for the Cardinals this yr and Warner will be on the bench and thats why Grossman has had 9 lives in Chicago. As far as the people who don't believe in Rogers, granted he's no Favre and probably never will be, but consider the Chargers keeping Phillip Rivers and letting Brees go hasn't hurt them at all

The problem is gonna be the Green Bay fans having no patience w Rogers. Hopefully, he has
the character to be able to deal w intense media scrutiny, harsh public critism and drunken cheeseheads, he's gonna need it

Rodgers did impress me when he stepped in for Farve during the Dallas game last year. Granted the Packers did lose, but Rodgers did do better then Favre in that game.

Even thou it is a pre-season game for the packers on monday night, I am still looking forward on watching and see how the Packers are going to do.

It's going to be an interesting season; that's for sure!

That would be a Boston accent. I'm not sure what Country you are from, but insinuating that a NYer sounds like that is probably one of the biggest insults you can make.

Now, "Brett Farve and the JETS are goin' to the Supabowl, FUGHEDABOUDIT!!! There, that's more like NY..

Like Tom Bosley trying to do a Maine accent in Murder She Wrote. I can slip into my Maine accent with a bit of time over there, but I lived there for a few years. Listening to morons trying to pronounce Bar Harbor and thinking they are doing it with a Maine accent is a gas.

Favre will fit in fine w the Jets. They'll probably have a couple hundred fans show up to the games w Wrangler Jeans, cowboy boots/hats and their #4 Favre jerseys on and call themselves Favre's Fanatics or something like that. Favre still has 2-3 good yrs left in him, look at what he did at Green Bay last yr.

They gotta play New England twice but they get to play the Dolphins twice as well, should be an interesting yr for the Jets.

I wonder how close it is to being deleted.
Doesn't matter. It was more fun than Comp Check threads, if even for a day.
