so I used to get "not interested", a quick hangup, or a story about how I'm the 25,000th person that's called within the last 2 minutes...

tonight was more like "Hello may I speak to Charles?" "No, he died and we just buried him yesterday"....my response= "m'aam, i mean no offense, but how many Charles' are in the family, you said that last Thursday?"

...promptly followed by a hangup

Anyone get anything creative recently when cold calling?

I closed a wrong number once, pitched the lady who had her home paid for but gave me her daughters name/number after talking w her for 20 minutes. Closed the daughter and her husband on a c/o refi and it was one of the easiest loans I ever closed (made 3pts).

If I ever go on the speaking circuit I will find a way to work this story into my spiel. I was walking on water for a month after this loan closed.

Are you kidding? Thats pathetic.

Once I was parking to go to lunch and a cop tried to give me a parking ticket . Well, one thing led to another and I ended up refinancing the cops 30 year fixed into a stated option arm , and I made 5 points on the deal. Was a 600k house.

She was so impressed, I was allowed to speed, drive drunk, and park anywhere I wanted for 6 months afterwards. I got over a dozen jumbo loans from referrals over the next 30 days , all making 5 points.

And for the cop?

Just yesterday I got a call from her, and now Im going to try to do a loan mod for her to save her from foreclosure.

Repeat business is great.

That's a shame...Even if you don't like johnny, and I'm not saying I don't, we butt heads every now and then, but I absolutely respect his views, opinions and industry knowledge...If we didn't butt heads so much he would be one of my go to guys when I had questions, among others here of course...Maybe you were just being TIC...

Called a guy in the early nineties. Beneficial and Household Finance were our prime refi targets. The guy was about 60 if I recall, perfect credit, yet Bene was banging him for about 11.99% on his $80k first. I new the guys niece, from the Polish club I frequented. The guy had a horrible smokers cough, disgusting. He wanted the refi, but only if I included "Mortgage Life Ins." Of course we didn't offer it, yet Bene & HFC did. He wouldn't budge without the mortgage life. About six months later I saw the niece at the club. I asked how's your uncle doing, he died, Bene Life paid the mortgage off!

That's NOTHING!

This one time, I did a refi on the Playboy Mansion. I can't even describe the following 6 months on a public forum.

Next I'm doing a refi on the International Space Station! I can't wait to go up for the lender's inspection.

But getting back to the telemarketing purpose of this thread. I love when telemarketers call me. I pretend I'm Detetive Bob from the Sheriff's Dept. and tell the telemarketer that they've just called a crime scene and that Mr. Dibert is laying on the floor with multiple stab wounds and then I start grilling them about how they knew me and about their whereabouts the night before. I ask them where they were and if they have any witnesses. That I need their personal information and a direct number where I can contact them if I have any further questions. It works even better on debt collectors. It's amazing what these people will tell you.

Im glad one person has a sense of humour. Unfortunately, the part about the stupid option arm -then getting PAID again to get them out of foreclosure is too true for many on this site, but will NEVER admit it.

I can joke about it because i never sold a single option arm.

But sadly, I did sell 80/20s and 2 /28s ..........

No lenders would allow you to state 80k plus for a police officer.

This is THE WORLDS GREATEST TELEMARKETER sharing his secrets. Anyone cold calling should take a page from his book. Well worth the few minutes to watch. The insight you will gain is invaluable. He has that certain 'X Factor' we all wish we could possess.
