Freddie chief's jackpot The mortgage giant steps closer to a big capital-raising move that could help its CEO keep his healthy paycheck. By Colin Barr, senior writer July 18, 2008: 5:03 PM EDT
NEW YORK (Fortune) -- Freddie Mac chief Richard Syron wants to avoid a government bailout for many reasons. A filing the struggling mortgage giant made Friday lists over 10 million of them.
Syron made $10.6 million last year, according to Freddie Mac's latest report with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company disclosed the information in a filing that clears the way for Freddie (FRE, Fortune 500) to raise $5.5 billion from investors to shore up its balance sheet.

My H.S. buddy and track team relay mate, Ralph Boyd, is E.V.P. of Community Relations at Freddie. He only made $850,000 last year. |

That's actually not too bad compared to the hundreds of millions of dollars that other CEO's made at financial institutions over the past few years. I am not justifying the salary, I am only indicating that it is fairly small compared to many others in the business.

That's true. This guy makes $10 million+ to kill the stock price and leave the company insolvent. I would have done that for a 1/10th his salary. |

Yeah, but look at the CEO's of Merrill, Citi, Countrywide, WAMU, Wachovia, etc, they have made many times more to kill the stock, leave the company and get a huge payout for what they have done. I am only saying that talking about the size of the company and the amount of money they use the guy was grossly underpaid for what did.
I too could have messed up the entire company for much less.
