| I received my quarterly statement for how my 401k is performing and the balances, yadda yadda...To my dismay im at a 5.5% loss on the year. I'm no stock guru, I really have no idea how to be honest I pretty much took a stab in the dark when choosing...Does anybody have a 401k through the principle financial group, and what asset classes are performing??? |

The time to buy is when there's blood in the streets!
Regional banks, Key Bank, 5/3, Suntrust. These are LONG term investments, don't look qtr-qtr. Good management will make money in these businesses. Citibank is another long term play. All of the afore mentioned stocks should double next 18-24 months! Or just buy the financials segment mutual funds. |

| Is this a 401(k) or an IRA, if it is an IRA and you can move it, if you haven't taken too much of a blood bath I may consider moving it to a self directed IRA where you can control the outcome of your investments. You can invest in real estate, a business, hard money loans, hedge funds, etc. and are not held to the whims of wall street. If you are interested give me a call. |

William, You're actually doing quite well. YTD, the Dow is down over 12% and the S&P is down 13%. You're currently beating the market on the downside which is key, making money in the markets in not hard, not losing it is.
I used to recommend for my clients an allocation of the following:
25% Lg Cap Growth 25% LG Cap Value 15% Mid Cap Core 10% Smalll cap growth 15% International 10% Fixed Income
You also want to make sure that your portfolio is rebalanced quarterly at the most. Your 401(k) probably has a rebalancing feature to allow you to select funds and an allocation and rebalance it too that on a quarterly basis.
I'm not sure what you are doing but it's working. If it's primarily bond funds and that's why you are doing well then you need to make changes.
Hope it helps.
