I have been a proponent of a T1 line for my office for a long time, but the time has come to make a change for monthly savings. I currently have a Full T1 for $383 a month and I am leasing a PBX for $180 a month. The T1 includes 6 VOIP lines with 2500 domestic minutes per month. I have 9 phones now, with 6 lines. I have also reduced from a staff of 9 (when I purchased it) to myself and my business partner ONLY. We don’t need an elaborate system now that there are only two of us. I called Comcast today and ordered a cable modem to be installed Thursday. The contract price is $89.99 a month for 16mb down and 2mb up. I think this is a very good price for what I will be getting, but I am a little apprehensive about running VOIP over cable. When I started my branch, we had Comcast with VOIP and experienced dropped calls a few times a month. Now that we have a lower volume of calls and less people, I expect that the service issues with VOIP will be minimal. Please comment if you think my assumption is incorrect.
I need to select a VOIP provider, preferable with a hosted PBX. I want both phones to ring before transferring to the automated attendant; I’d prefer a live person to have a chance to answer before the automated system. My biggest reservation is the ability to fax over VOIP. A few years ago I tried Vonage at my house and I never could get my fax machine to work there. I shopped around a little today, and it appears that I need an analog adaptor to make the fax work. Does anyone know of a provider that provides the adaptor with service? Has anyone used such adaptors with success?
If you already are using a setup like I am trying to migrate to, I would appreciate input on what provider you use and why. I looked at Vonage and Magicjack and it does not appear that they have the ability to meet my needs. I looked at Ring Central and that seems to be the best I can find, although I have little experience in selecting this type of service. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I forgot to mention that I already have POLYCOM SIP phones. I looked at Packet8 and they use proprietary phones. Does Vocalocity support SIP phones?

I have Cox (appropriately named)Cable for internet and use Vonage. I am constantly losing my internet connection and my phone service. If I am on the phone and get another call, when I put the call on hold to answer the incoming call, I lose the original caller. I don't know if the problem is my wireless router or Vonage. I have other friends with Vonage who swear by it.

Not heard many good things about Cox, but your problem with the dropped calls looks to be a vonage problem.
