Which one would you prefer and why?

I use them both' I like Skype for it's stereo sound quality. But, I don't use it to receive calls, because it ties me too much to my computer.

I use Vonage for both making and receiving calls "to" & "from" anywhere in USA and Canada, and many parts of Europe. Free 24/7 unlimited calls. All for $24.99 plus tax.

Vonage also rewards you to refer it to your friends and colleagues by giving you free two months of free service for each referral.

If you visit: http://www.vonage.com/friend and give them my Vonage number of 626-381-9836, and sign up for your own Vonage account, they’ll give you two months free, as well. Normally new customers get only one month free service when they sign up, but due to this special referral you’ll pick up one month for free. It pays to know people.

As a mortgage broker doing loans nationwide there is no better service than Vonage.

Why don't you get a bluetooth headset? That takes care of the tied to the desk problem.

The way my setup to Skype is I connect a Labtech headphone to my computer and use Skype to make calls nationwide, while I'm using the computer and need to copy and paste new contacts to my contact lists, or use my contact list to make calls. One draw back the other party can not read your number on their caller ID and sometimes they would not answer your calls from an unknown caller. Nonetheless. at cost of $ 3 per month you can't beat the service.

However, Vonage has a different set up, as you connect your Vonage box to your Internet Adaptor, and to your regular house phone. That's all you need to do. You are now calling US, Canada, and many other nations for free!

You can even move to a new location and take your setup with you without changing your phone number! You can forward all your calls to your cell phone, too. When I visit my local brokers, I always forward it to my cell phone, and my calls instantly get transferred. Vonage is awesome in my opinion.

There are lots of Skype phones that act as a cordless phone. I have a box that I plug a normal cordless phone into also. I'm thinking of upgradaing to the Skype system that plugs a wireless base station right into my router that comes with a really nice handset - no computer needed. Skype.com has more info
