I have decided to work from my home...have been skeptical for awhile because I tend to get distracted when not in a physical office, people making noise, complaining etc.

But time to cut the costs and hustle.

So I need to setup a land line...

For just 1 person, best bet to go with Vonage?

I have been using Vonage since 2002 and you can't beat the price.

I highly highly advise Ringcentral. It has more features then my $5000 office system has, and is as low as 9.99 a month including a toll free number. If you want, provide me your e-mail address, and I will get you a free trial with bonus minutes.

I have vonage, both fax and phone. There is breaking in the lines quite often. Vonage says it is my internet provider. I have DSL and another phone line with my local phone company. They say they cannot guarantee speed. I am switching the fax back, the breaks in service stops faxes too often.

I just use my cell and metrofax for my efax service. I use Skype for my conference calls and international calls.

I use Time Warner digital phone service.. unlimited national calling for $35/month. I also use that phone line for outgoing faxes.

Coupled with that, I use www.simplifyfax.com which is $10/month, toll free transferable fax# with unlimited incoming. It sends a pdf file right to my email.

Working from home is great!

With no commute, working from home saves a couple of hundred bucks per month in gas

I work from my home office every now and then and have never had trouble with any provider. I do pull through Epass; however.

It is unlimited minutes. My concern is the lack of two lines (my processor will be in the office with me) and call quality.

Works great but I don't use it much...It's more for out of the home, for me, but could be used here fulltime easily...

I used Vonage at Home with Comcast Cable High Speed and its worked flawlessly. At work I tried using it with DSL and it was a nightmare...had to switch back. Good Price if it works!

i pay 10/month with faxmicro to receive in pdf/tif

this way i dont have to waste paper or toner.

I usually scan/email all my attachments. I hardly send out faxes

Ringcentral has every feature you can imagine, costs way less then anyone else, and has crystal clear sound quality.

HPM..I love the idea of ringcentral, but I have a question about the minutes. How many minutes are you burning through. It just seems like I pay for my landline, cell phone and then ringcentral is even more minutes to pay for. Have you had a problem with burning through minutes?

I too had the same concern, I have had unlimited minutes for a long time now. I have no idea how many I use in a month, but I am guessing it might be more than 2500.

I've had good luck with Packet8.net (vonage look a like with great quality) and Faxmicro.com on the incoming faxes.......You may need to set up a scaled down land line for outgoing faxes, though, as outbound faxing over VOIP is not very effective yet.

I have used Vonage for both phone and fax for 4 years now and as long as you have good high speed internet service it works great. I have even taken the router with me out of town and it worked like a champ.

If you really want your fax service to be uninterruptable though going with an efax number is the best and the quality is kept at a higher level. I have been using mine more and more trying to do as much digitally as possible to reduce paper costs and shipping.

I have a home office and three actual offices. On all of them I have the same set up. I have tried vonage and the others but I just stick with AT&T for phone and DSL. I have unlimited long distance and it costs me around $80 a month for phone and DSL, another $20 or so a month for efax (efax.com) and another $100 a month for ringcentral which I use as an 800 for those that want to get a hold of me that way., or as a PBX for my company to reach other LO/Agents. It works out pretty good and for just about $500 a month I get four offices hooked up, faxes and an 800#.

As mentioned, I would NEVER have faxes coming to a land line, there is so much spam that comes, wastes your ink and toner and all. You can receive faxes via PDF, e-mail them to clients, banks or escrow, even sign them digitally and store them securily on your server saving tons of ink and paper, and money.

If you get the digital line you can get unlimited outgoing minutes, you will use your existing phone and remember they bill to the second so if your call is 1 minute and 23 seconds, you only are deducted 1 minute 23 seconds, The minutes also roll over from one month into the future.

You get 500 minutes/month which do not carry over. However, you can buy more minutes in blocks of 500 for 10 bucks each, I believe. The blocks you buy DO carry over from month to month.

You get a toll-free or local number and also a free fax number to use. You won't get unlimited minutes anywhere for toll-free anywhere else either.

The big benefit of something like RingCentral is that you can access and answer any of your mailboxes from anywhere with internet service and a computer. Thus, you could work from a beach in Mexico and nobody would even know it, nor would you miss a call or have a lead swiped by another LO in the office.

You can also set up extensions to work with FSBO or Rider signs you have set up. Send and receive faxes via email, music on hold, etc. There are lots of factors to consider besides minutes, which you are going to pay with a cellphone anyway. And if minutes are a problem you can always excuse yourself and return the call from your home phone line.

If you get the digital line, outgoing minutes are not counted. I have unlimited outgoing and 1000 incoming.

We are only talking about petty bills here, I wouldn't wast much time on them...If they are a big deal in any way, this may no be a good idea...I mean come on, if it was $20, $50 or even $200 a month, so what?...Pennies for a business...

I use Bellsouth with unlimited Long distance and Efax for my incoming faxes. I had brokers with Vonage and had problems or it came through scratchy.

I am sure other providers are good but I just wanted to go with 2 companies that were tried and true and That I never have service issues with. When trying to close a loan the last thing I need are techinical difficulties.

have a blackberry, but with Sprint. I think I'm just going to go with Magic Jack and then efax.

I like RingCentral and all the features but a little worried about the minutes situation.

Amazing. I can download music and have a conversation at the same time with no loss whatsoever in phone quality.

Very Very good point. Your phones are the most important factor of your business. If you are unable to spend 50-100 per month you are setting yourself up for failure.
