I have never had a problem with my Vista but mine was installed at the factory by HP. The only people I hear having a problem are people who upgrade to it from XP. I wonder if it's because I have a dual core processor or with the software for the upgrade?

Vista *****.
I bought a new computer with Vista, had to do the same and reinstall XP.
Vista didnt work with my printer or most of my programs including my Norton antivirus.

No, Steve - don't let them mislead you. My brand new laptop was installed with the OS at the factory....there are many issues with Vista.....be careful! Cost me $1,000's, then I just basically spent $$ for a new box and installed my existing XP OS.

Bought an HP laptop from Best Buy with Vista pre-installed. No problems.
Using Office 2007 with no glitches either.

Vista problems may be due to which edition (Home, Premium etc.) Plus the Geek Squad installed and set up my system. Would highly recommend them.
(I have my laptop plugged in to an LG 32 inch HD TV so it's easy on the eyes.)

I was very resistant to Vista...even tried to find a laptop that was downgradeable without formatting...

I have to say, I'm pretty happy with Vista so far...3 weeks later.

Just bought my vista a couple of days ago. Had no problems yet. However, some of the cd softwares that I installed seems to not work so well. Any thoughts?

The first time it shuts down for no reason, take it to your IT GURU, strip off Vista and install XP or Linux. XP drivers are easier to find through the Canadian models......just FYI.

Downgraded from Vista to XP one month ago. Vista was preinstalled on my desktop by Dell. One day all of my printers disappeared and I was getting a weird error failure when I tried to reinstall the printers. I googled the error, and found a page on Microsoft's support site acknowledging the issue. Only problem was the suggested fix was to REINSTALL THE ENTIRE O.S. Forget that.

Vista was made so that we should all have to purchase all new programs and new printers.

Everyone complained about XP back in 2003 and 2004 for the same reasons.

Same here ... but mine is a Sony Vaio ... two of them in fact. I did have some glitches initially with some lenders' web software and my Palm Desktop software as they did not initially have a Vista version. Now all is working well.

My understanding is that Vista is optimized for the dual-cpu machines.

had XP..miss it.
Have vista now and wish I didn't..there are way too many extra steps within this p.o.s.. Security?? I don't think so (athough the fonts are nice)

I am really thinking MAC next time...
there is a place in FL that produces and sells MAC clones (Psystar??) with more RAM and ROM.. for like $400..I'm tempted.

Put it this way, Microsoft even knows Vista *****, they had a press release the other week that they will continue selling XP for now instead of it being phased out soon b/c of all the complaints and issues. Actually everyone I know who had Vista, reformatted to XP on new computers.

I didnt know they were going to continue selling it.
When i bought a new computer a few months ago and (regretably) got Vista, Dell told me that Microsoft will no longer offer XP sometime in June/July or so.

looks like there is one user that likes vista....

not going to get me to change my mind.... it's not me or my imagination it's a dog.... (not that it matters in this field (mortgages), but i do hold a computer science degree so i have had a very intimate understanding of many different operating systems, hardware and programs over the years....)

vista is a dog of an operating system.... it is akin to ME version of windows.... i'll give you a wonderful example.... i have had to get used to the fact that i have to reload printer drivers every day.... and i have to reinstall adobe at least twice a month....

completely up to date with sp's....

if it works for some, that's outstanding.... it's not for me.... and i tell everyone i can to stay away until they get the bugs worked out!

Vista *****

However, you can fix a lot of the issues by increasing your memory. Vista takes up about 1,000Ram by it self and slows down your computer making it frustrating to use

Vista is great if you have it pre-installed. Never ever upgrade to it. These problems are normal with new OSs. Every microsoft OS has had the same thing, 95, 2000, XP. The thing to do is to wait until the 1st or 2nd service pack is issued, and then wait until they update that service pack.. By that time most of the kinks are worked out. Vista service pack 1 is out now, but I haven't installed it yet. I am waiting to see what others say. I was an IT dude for 10 years and we always had this predicament. We wouldn't upgrade OSs until about 2 years after it came out.

I don't mind the vista. I don't like, however, the Windows Mail in that I can't send an email to Hotmail. I've seen blogs about this, and it's just a pain that I can't send emails from Windows mail to Hotmail. Maybe there's a patch out there or something free that will allow me to do it now.
Otherwise, no problem with my Gateway laptop pre-installed with Vista Basic and upgraded free to Premium.
God BLESS America!

Toshiba here.......great box, but Vista didn't only slow it down, would shut it down in the middle of an application. I lost HDD twice in 58 days. The security thing was a waste of my time, which made me not send or request to open because by the time the new window would open, I could have perused, ordered, paid, closed the window and moved on had this still been XP.

I did seriously consider Linux - got the dics for it and was ready to go. But, felt it needed a little more support before I subjected client files to it.

And, my back up is the good ol stand by Thinkpad running yours truly, XP.

VISTA runs OK, you just have to make sure you have enough memory for the OS.

Mac would not give you any of these problems. You can use parallels for Windows needs.
Go to your local Mac store and take a look.
