Our 18 year old Maytag washer is now leaking, I could repair it

my self, for under $50-. However, the Maytag

dealer kicked the up selling process into high gear.

I was told a new front loading washer, would use

25 gallons less water, every time it was used.

Okay, that is all fine, however, now I am challenged,

to think of a more boring way, to spend an economic

stimulus check.

Put it all in a basic savings account earning 0.7% annual interest. Would be very boring, and very un-LO-esque.

If you have a child or children, put it into a type of savings, other interest-bearing account, a savings bond, or toward his/her/their education account (not very boring).

After inflation, the result would be even more boring.

Buy a gun, and some ammo.

Don't forget about all the money that this new energy efficient machine will bring you.

As far as boring, pay off some of that debt.

That's not very patriotic, we are supposed to use it to help the economy, saving it isn't even going to help you because inflation is higher than your bank acount.

Yes, it would be 'un-American'.

The American thing to do is spend money on worthless Chinese-made sh*t you don't need ...

... preferably, using debt as the vehicle to acquire said worthless sh*t.

Fine, then, go to Walmart and spend away so that the economy is "stimulated".

Don't know if you guys watch the Daily Show, but there was a good rant on this the other day. Talking about buying a bunch of worthless crap on credit is what got us into this mess, so in order to get us out we have to go out and buy a bunch more worthless crap.

You do know that I was being sarcastic, right?

I still think it would be better to buy an American-made GUN, and some ammo. You might need it some day.

On a serious note, alberstons is giving 10% extra for all tax rebates traded for Albertson's cards. We all need food. Might as well get that extra 10%. Boring, but F*ck it.

Good point, we bought another Maytag, and the new machine will pay for it self

in water and energy savings, in about 5 years, around same time the factory

service plan expires.

Not that this has a lot to do with mortgages, but I will never buy another Maytag.

The old ones were rock solid.
The new ones are crap. I already have had to replace my 5 year old Maytag front loader (I paid $1200 for the washer, saved a couple hundred in water, big deal) since the cost to repair was over half the cost of a new machine. The dryer also required repairs twice. Look at the repair record in Consumer Reports, they are at the bottom- that is why they had to sell out to Whirlpool. Time will tell if they get their act together, but when I bought again I did not want to be the guiniea pig.

We have friends that were also not happy with their purchase of the 1st generation

of the Maytag front loader.

So, I thought about straying from Maytag, even though, we have owned their

washers for over 21 years, with-out one single service call.

What convinced me to remain loyal to Maytag, was the knowledge

of the sales people, at the dealer that I dealt with.

They were able to go over in detail, the problems that occurred,

with each specific part, and they advised me of the steps

Maytag took to modify the machine on the 2nd and 3rd generations.

They claim the repair issues with the past 2 generations of the model,

have all been resolved.

I paid $649- for the washer and it is fully covered by a service plan

for 5 years at a cost of $99-.

I will save about $150- per year if my water and electric rates, remain constant.

Did the Maytag dealer, employ slick sales people that fooled us?

I think not, however, only time will tell.

Maytag, Whirlpool and Kenmore are all made in the same shop with different names, at least the fridges are, don't know about the washers.

The first generation of the Maytag front load washers,

that had the most problems, were made by Samsung, in South Korea.

They are now made by Whirlpool.

Why not invest your refund in leads or purchase an autodialer machine or buy some mailers?

Do you think if we pooled a few of our stimulus checks we could buy enough red clown noses to send one to all the Bozo's in Washington D.C.?

Let's see: 535 or so for the House & Senate, another 200-300 for the White House folks, for sure a bunch for the HUD people, OFHEO, the NY Attorney General & staff, Elliot Spitzer-just because, ............any more suggestions?

Great idea, I love it.

Except for one thing ... your math is a little off.

We need 534 red clown noses for the House and Senate, not 535.

You can't count Ron Paul among the bozos. Unlike the rest of them, he has taken his Oath of Office seriously.

He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.

He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.

He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.

"I was going to use mine to make my car payment but I dont think I am going to get a check since I make too much money even though I cant make my car payment." if you are going to make under 75k in 08 you qualify, since the turbo tax looks at 07 it told you no, even though it seems like you may qualify. worth checking into

I am going to step outside, and take a nice breath of fresh air.

That is all I can afford to do with my stimulus check, which will be ZERO dollars.

We all don't get a rebate you know.

Perhaps I will jump and click my heels together as well. That is free.
