I remember back in the 90's when it was under $1/gallon... at least we're not in England, I think it's about $7.50 or $8/gallon there.

Yes that is the prices for gas there. However, public trans and smaller cars have been used there to make it a non-factor.

Gas was much cheaper until about 3 years ago. You gotta get out of CA, it is too expensive and the entire infrastructure is built around the automobile (even more than the rest of the nation). I will set you up here in the St Louie suburbs with a higher split.

Under $1? I don't remember gas ever being under $1 and I started driving in '87.

LOL, Indian Giver!! At first you said you'd pay double what I currently make!! :P

I almost moved to MN for a girl I intended on marrying (I know I know), but at the end of the day, couldn't break away from CA. If anything changes and I have an urge for the mid-west, I'll be sure to give you first dibs!! ; )

It was right at or under $1 in the early 90's. I had an idiot roomate who would drive 15 miles out to Santee to get "cheap" gas because it was $0.10 cheaper than here in the city. Worst part is he had a huge V-8 and got like 12 miles to the gallon. Tried to explain it to him but he just wouldn't get it. Also when oil fell to like $15 a gallon after 9/11 for about six months I was able to get it around $0.89,

It did. You are in CA, so it probably never dipped that low there. All you Californians need to come back to the Midwest. We got cheap prices, fiddle music and all the pot pie you can eat!

Luckily I have a dodge turbo diesel that only costs $120 to fill up. It makes a great ramada for all the neighborhood cats to lay under.

I drive a little 95 corolla.....little over 30 bucks to fill it and around 325 miles for a tank. I've been wanting an excuse to get a new car, but the thing won't quit and with gas prices the way they are, this thing does phenomenal.

Three years ago in Peru, gas was $12/gal. Two years ago in Italy, gas was $8/gal. Why? Because of gov't taxation, which isn't the case here in the USA!! Whichever Presidential candidate is talking about a tax free day for gas....uuummmm, that's about $0.18/gal......

Here it's capitalism and oil companies making profit. It would be nice for gas to be cheaper or at least stabilize at the current prices, but with all of the chatter of $200/brl, it will go up.

Unfortunately because hybrids are priced so much higher than non-hybrid models that it typically takes 7-10 years just to break even. For the civic it's 4.8 years.

I remember in the late 90's early 2000 at the chevron on melrose in Vista, Ca they were selling gas at .90/gal for a week or so I stopped by every day after work to top off the tank in my kick a$$ 89 ford escort. I think it was like $12-15 to fill it up from empty.

I really don't think that it is fair to compare gas prices from other countries we don't live there and when you have most of the oil co's here in the USA you would think that we would get a break. Or at least with having our military taking over countries we could get some cheep oil with them as well.....but that is a topic for another discussion.

I'm just glad I work from home and since my girlfriend is the only one who drives to work she is the one who fills them with gas. I have not had to fill up the car in a few months so I don't even know what it costs.... she insist on driving my pathfinder rather than her scion coup because its automatic and sits higher. Fine with me I like her scion 5 speed if I am running errands. Lucky me!

Ha Ha Ha, you mortgage monkeys crack me up! When I first started driving, gas was $.28/gal, and a quart of Schaefer Beer was $.30. You could put three gallons in the tank, buy three quarts of Schaefer, and get half a nickel bag for five bucks! Those were the days!

Here is a 30 year chart of the price of gasoline.
If you look at the inflation adjusted data it is actually more the dollar that is weakening through inflation than gas prices increasing.
