Local affiliate TV station of a big boy like Fox, CBS, NBC, ABC, etc. They will make a huge deal out of it especially if they can film the files in the dumpster. This will also automatically notify all the appropriate state & federal agencies. |

| If it was a broker, I'd becareful taking it to the media. Brokers don't need additional negative attention. |

Why dont you call someone that will actually do something instead of trying to create some ridiculous media frenzy. |

You're joking right? You actually think with all the mortgage lenders & brokers going under that this is even close to the only one doing it? |

| great, guess i will be reading about this in the oc register tomorrow. where is the office by the way. as oc has become as small world lately i am sure somone might know who it is...as far as grabing the files and calling, that would only open him up to a breach in confidentiality. |

Thats a major no no, that company would have to be retarded. All it takes is proof of one file throw out and they are fawked. An company I worked for few years ago, got caught last year after they closed shop. Fairly large, had pry 300+ employees if I recall, after I left I don't know what the company did but they ran themselves into the ground. Our office always kept order of files and shipped to corporate. Well upon closing corporate left files everywhere in other offices not locked up or anything. Office mngrs called to tell them to get stuff out, they didn't so got reported

Dude, one day I had to sit and shred a huge file that came in from Met Life, it was full medical history and everything yo could imagine for this 70 year old person from the time they were born. Was like 4 or 5 hundred pages. Somehow my fax number got put in and when printed it showed incoming of the company name imprinted as well. B/c of that I had to sit there and shred it b/c it had my number on it, I didn't want to throw it out in case they tracked the fax number. |

| Even if they are old, those files should have been shredded. If that company went bankrupt, maybe they just didn't care, but that's unconscionable. |

wow, it never ceases to amaze me about the things that happen.
There should be a system in place that hires companies who do specifically look for important client documents to shred for other companies closing their doors (hired by the FEDs) Think exterminator...
Anyone see an opportunity here??! |

What are California's requirements on maintaining files?
We closed our shop, but NV law is to maintain all files for 3 years. All of our files are boxed, labeled and in a secure storage unit. |

How about the plastic surgeon that put his computer out on the curb without removing the hard drive. Complete with the pictures of all the patients before and after photos.

There are Identity Theft issues in what they are doing. I'm sure if the local police caught them there would be major issues. There are laws that spell out how information has to be destroyed.
